BLACKPINK’s ‘Lovesick Girls’ at No. 3 on Spotify X Half of All Songs Enter the Top 10

[스포츠조선=조지영 기자] Half of the total of 8 tracks listed on BLACKPINK’s official debut album were placed on the Global Chart Top 10 of Spotify, the world’s biggest music streaming platform, proving the group’s global presence.

The title track ‘Lovesick Girls’ from BLACKPINK’s ‘THE ALBUM’ was ranked at no. 3 on Spotify’s Global Top 50 chart on the 2nd(US time), the day of its release.

The song ‘Bet You Wanna’ featuring Cardi B, the famous American rapper, was ranked at no. 4, ‘Pretty Savage’ was ranked at no. 8, while ‘Ice Cream’ was ranked at no. 10.

Other songs were also placed in the top ranks ‘Crazy Over You’(no. 17) ‘Love To Hate Me’(no. 18) ‘How You Like That’(no. 19) ‘You Never Know’(no. 25), proving the popularity of the entire album.

With over 200M users, Spotify is an influential music streaming platform which even impacts the US Billboard and UK’s Official Charts. The platform is included in the Global Digital Artist rankings, which ranks 4 different platform charts including iTunes, Apple Music, YouTube, and Spotify.

The global fans’ heated interest towards BLACKPINK, the group who is currently at no. 1 in Global Digital Artist rankings, have been proven through objective numbers on many major music charts.

‘THE ALBUM’ also topped the iTunes Album charts in a total of 57 countries, including the US. The album was ranked at no. 7 on Apple Music’s Album chart, and topped the Pop Album chart, proving their strong presence in the major Pop market.

The MV for ‘Lovesick Girls’ with BLACKPINK members’ inner acting is also gathering the people’s interest. While currently heading towards 100M views, the ‘Lovesick Girls’ MV is maintaining its no. 1 on the ‘Most Watched Video in 24 Hours’ category for 2 days, while BLACKPINK’s channel is about to surpass 50M subscribers, with approximately 800 thousand subscribers added on after the release of their official debut album.

They are also dominating charts in China and Japan. BLACKPINK dominated the no. 1 spots on a total of 5 different charts in QQ Music, China’s biggest music platform. They topped the New Releases, MV, Digital Album Sales, Top Rising, and Popularity Index charts. In Japan, the group not only topped the iTunes Chart, but also the real-time charts of Line Music and AWA, as well as successfully ‘lining up’ all tracks of the album within the top 10.

‘THE ALBUM’ is receiving support from the fans as BLACKPINK’s official debut album, released in 4 years after the group has made debut. The title track ‘Lovesick Girls’ is composed of lyrical melodies and BLACKPINK’s powerful vocals added on top of country sounding guitar riffs. The song asks the fundamental question of why people get hurt and wounded by love, and yet they go out looking for another love.

Meanwhile, physical copies of BLACKPINK’s ‘THE ALBUM’ will be officially released on the 6th. Since the current album pre-order volume exceeds 1M, they are expected to set the first, best, and biggest record in K-Pop girl group history.
