2NE1’s MV unveiled: Summed up in “2NE1’s…” & “2NE1 is…”

On YG Entertainment’s official blog, the music videos 2NE1’s 2nd full album title song “COME BACK HOME” and another track “HAPPY” were uploaded at 2:01 pm on March 3.
The expectations of the fans were building up as the video release was postponed due to some computer graphic work. The unveiled videos embraced two features: 1) something only 2NE1 could pull off and 2) a whole new 2NE1.
# “COME BACK HOME” unique to 2NE1
The MV of “COME BACK HOME” begins with a confusing image of a future city, unclear of whether it is computer graphic or real. Then the two warriors, CL and MINZY appear. In a place that reminds us of a future city, DARA is with her lover, creating a peculiar ambience. With a strong graphic that reads “VIRTUAL PARADISE” the members come into shape. The yearning expression on DARA is completely gone, and each of the members begins to create something. An unknown substance gets injected into the four laying members’ eyes and brains.
The four now warriors set the ballroom on fire with a chemical element, and then leaves the venue slowly. The scene is then linked to a dynamic computer graphic work.
“COME BACK HOME” makes you feel like you are watching a sci-fi film with a futuristic background. It’s understandable that they had to postpone the release date to invest more time in the computer graphic work. The colorful computer graphic that has not appeared in girl group music videos is eye-catching. The computer graphic of geometric shapes that create an odd ambience both dark and powerful leaves quite an impression. The expressionless four female warriors make it even more remarkable. This is something only in 2NE1’s music video, and something only 2NE1 can pull off.
The music video is a combination of the crossover mixture of R&B, reggae, hip-hop and other genres with the unplugged version. CL’s rap music video that was not included in the crossover version was inserted in the middle part of the clip.
#2NE1 is “HAPPY”?
While “COME BACK HOME” is strong and powerful, “HAPPY” is at the other end of the spectrum. The basic tone is already upbeat and light. Vivacious girls and the vivid colors come into attention. Different images like exclamation mark (!), question mark (?), cloud, and facial expressions fill the screen along the lyrics. The warm sunrays and the members’ fancy but unique outfits match with the playful song. DARA, who always brought a surprise with unusual hairstyles once again amazed the fans with a very curious-looking bangs.
“HAPPY” is a work of YG’s main producer TEDDY, carrying a powerful guitar and drum beats with a light melody, unlike the sad lyrics that wishes a parted lover to be happy.
Although 2NE1 had been known for their charisma, “HAPPY” is a video that reveals their playful and girly charms. In the latter part of the video, 2NE1’s close friend and a fashion designer Jeremy Scott makes an appearance, adding to the fun of the clip.
