BLACKPINK’s ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’ MV Surpasses 2.1 Billion Views, ‘Highest Record in K-Pop’
[스포츠경향=김원희 기자] Group BLACKPINK has set yet another record in K-pop.
According to YG Entertainment on the 31st, BLACKPINK’s ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’ music video surpassed 2.1 billion views on YouTube around 4:27 PM the previous day. This is a record-breaking achievement made approximately 5 years and 1 month after the video was released on June 15, 2018, marking the first time a K-pop group music video has reached this milestone.
‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’ continues to break its own records on YouTube for the highest and most viewed K-pop group music video, thanks to the steady love from global music fans. Given that it has been changing the lead number of hundreds of millions of views every 3 to 6 months, further record-breaking achievements are expected.
‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’, the title track of BLACKPINK’s first mini album ‘SQUARE UP’, became the most viewed K-pop music video worldwide in 2018, winning popularity with its addictive chorus and a key dance move that mimics shooting a gun with both hands.
The track also topped the domestic charts with a ‘perfect all-kill’, and it ranked 40th on the Billboard 200 and 55th on the Hot 100 in the United States, setting the highest record for a K-pop girl group at the time. The number of streams on Spotify, the world’s largest music platform, exceeds 600 million.
Meanwhile, BLACKPINK’s official YouTube channel has 90.3 million subscribers, making it the top artist worldwide, surpassing just K-pop. They own a total of 43 videos with hundreds of millions of views, and the cumulative views of their content exceed 32.4 billion, continuing to break records.
