BLACKPINK’s ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’ Surpasses 1.6B Views… YG, “First·Best K-Pop Record”
[텐아시아=최지예 기자] Group BLACKPINK’s MV for ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’ surpassed 1.6B views on YouTube. It is the first and best record in K-Pop group MV history.
According to YG Entertainment on June 4, BLACKPINK’s ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’ MV has surpassed 1.6B views on YouTube as of 7:22 AM.
The record was achieved in approximately 2 years and 11 months since its release back on June 15, 2018. With the support from global fans, the MV for ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’ has renewed its own record as the K-Pop group MV with the first·biggest view count.
After becoming the first K-Pop group MV to surpass 1B views back in November 2019, the MV is still receiving love as much as the new songs. The video has been racking up hundreds of millions of views every 2~3 months even after surpassing 1B views.
‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’ is the title track of BLACKPINK’s first mini album ‘SQUARE UP’. With a catchy chorus and point moves of firing a pistol, it became the ‘Most Watched K-Pop MV in the World’ that year.
The song also achieved remarkable success on major global charts. It not only achieved a ‘perfect all-kill’ on Korean charts, but was also ranked at no. 40 and at no. 55 on the US Billboard 200 and Hot 100 respectively, setting the best K-Pop girl group record at the time.
Furthermore, the song is about to surpass 400M streams on Spotify, the world’s biggest music platform, which shows that ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’ will continue its record march.
BLACKPINK has a total of 28 videos with over 100M views. Among the 28 videos, ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU(1.6B)’, ‘Kill This Love(1.3B)’, ‘BOOMBAYAH(1.1B)’, and ‘AS IF IT’S YOUR LAST(1B)’ has surpassed 1B views.
Their YouTube channel has also surpassed 61.3M subscribers. They are currently the most subscribed female artist group in the world and is closely after Justin Bieber, who is the currently the most subscribed artist in the world.
