[MBN=이남경 기자] BLACKPINK has once again set a record with their ‘Kill This Love’ music video surpassing 1.8 billion views.

According to YG Entertainment on the 26th, BLACKPINK’s ‘Kill This Love’ music video surpassed 1.8 billion views on YouTube at approximately 2:28 a.m. this morning.

About four years and one month after its release, it achieved this view count thanks to the steady love of music fans around the world.

With this, BLACKPINK became the first K-pop artist to have two music videos with over 1.8 billion views.

Their other mega-hit song ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’ had previously achieved the same view count and is currently heading towards 2.1 billion views.

‘Kill This Love’ is a song characterized by its powerful brass leads and majestic drum sounds.

The music video captured BLACKPINK’s powerful and charismatic dance lines with sophisticated visuals, drawing explosive reactions from fans around the world.

In particular, it received high praise for its addictive point dance moves, including a move that looks like shooting a gun, and was the only K-pop to be listed in the ‘Top 10 Most Viewed Music Videos Worldwide in 2019’.

The song also achieved remarkable results on various global charts. In its first week of release, the song broke the highest ranking record for a K-pop girl group at the time, reaching 41st and 24th on the Billboard Hot 100 and Billboard 200 respectively.

Meanwhile, BLACKPINK is currently conducting the largest-scale world tour for a K-pop girl group, the ‘BLACKPINK WORLD TOUR [BORN PINK]’, mobilizing approximately 1.5 million people. Following the currently successful Asian tour, they have upcoming performances in Paris, France, and four cities in North America.

They will also take the stage as the first K-pop artist headliners at the British music festival ‘Hyde Park British Summer Time Festival’ to be held in July.
