BLACKPINK’s MV for ‘Kill This Love’ Surpasses 800M Views…’First-Ever K-Pop Group’ to Hold 3 MVs With Over 800M Views
[OSEN=김은애 기자] BLACKPINK became the ‘first-ever K-Pop group’ to hold 3 MVs with over 800M views, continuing their new record march.
On April 20 at 3:43 AM, BLACKPINK’s MV for ‘Kill This Love’ surpassed 800M views on YouTube. YG Entertainment uploaded a celebration poster through their official blog and social media channels.
As a result, BLACKPINK holds 3 MVs with over 800M views including the video for ‘Kill This Love’, ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’ which surpassed 1.1 billion views, and ‘BOOMBAYAH’ which is heading towards 900M views. Their other hit song ‘AS IF IT’S YOUR LAST’ is also about to reach 800M views, which will continue their new record march.
At the time the MV for ‘Kill This Love’ was released on April 5 last year, the video received passionate responses by surpassing 100M views in 63 hours. It was also the only K-Pop MV to be listed on the ‘Most Watched MV in the World 2019’ TOP10, announced by YouTube.
The MV for ‘Kill This Love’ captivated the global fans’ hearts with BLACKPINK’s powerful and charismatic dance lines along with their sophisticated visuals. Their motion of firing a shotgun and other catchy point moves also impress the viewers.
They created a boom not only in Asia but also in North America and Europe, becoming the ‘Most covered song in the world’ in 2019 as well. The song was the most covered K-Pop song by BLACKPINK for 2 consecutive years, following ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’.
‘Kill This Love’ entered US Billboard’s main single chart Hot 100 and Billboard 200 as no. 41 and no. 24 respectively, setting the first and best record in K-Pop girl group history. They also set a new K-Pop girl group record in UK’s Official Singles Chart Top 100 by being ranked at no. 33. In addition, their release topped Korean real-time and album charts as well.
‘Kill This Love’ is still popular and is receiving support among the fans. Forbes, the American economy magazine, spotlighted BLACKPINK’s steady influence by writing, “’Kill This Love’ was charted in Billboard’s World Digital Song Sales chart for 52 consecutive weeks”. They also expected that their success will continue by writing, “No one can estimate how long ‘Kill This Love’ will remain in the according chart”.
