[마이데일리=광명동 기자] Popular girl group BLACKPINK set the stage ablaze as headliners at the largest music festival in the United States, Coachella Valley Arts Festival, returning after four years. On the 15th (local time), BLACKPINK received cheers from fans as the final performers of the day at the event held in California. Coachella, which has been held annually since 1999, attracts over 200,000 attendees each year.

Billboard reported that BLACKPINK made history as the first-ever K-pop girl group to headline Coachella with the article titled, “BLACKPINK Writes a New Chapter in History as Celebratory Headliner at Coachella 2023.”

ROSE expressed her gratitude saying, “Four years ago, we were invited to perform at the Sahara Tent at Coachella, and it left a deep impression on all of us. We can’t help but say our dreams have come true. The reason we four are here is all thanks to you.”

JENNIE added, “I’m really happy to be back. I can’t believe we’ve come from the Sahara to the main stage in four years. We love you, Coachella!”

Although technical issues delayed the start of the performance, at 9:24 PM, fans’ light-up bracelets began to glow pink. At 9:28 PM, a single word “BLACKPINK” echoed through the speakers. Finally, at 9:30 PM, the stage went dark, and BLACKPINK’s explosive performance began.

Opening with the pre-released track ‘Pink Venom’ from their second album, BLACKPINK continued to captivate the audience with a string of hits like ‘Kill This Love,’ ‘How You Like That,’ and ‘Pretty Savage.’ Fans enjoyed the concert singing along all night long.

Individual stages showcasing each member’s unique talents also stood out. JENNIE performed an unreleased solo song ‘You and Me,’ JISOO sang the title track ‘Flower’ from her recently released solo single ‘ME,’ ROSÉ performed ‘GONE’ and ‘On The Ground,’ while LISA passionately delivered ‘Money’ after a pole dance performance.

Billboard praised the group, saying, “JENNIE, JISOO, ROSÉ, and LISA focused on doing what they do best as BLACKPINK, allowing BLINKs to see them, and shining in their own moments on this historic and monumental stage, showcasing their individuality on one of the biggest stages in the music world.”

Meanwhile, BLACKPINK is currently on the largest-ever K-pop girl group world tour, mobilizing more than 1.5 million fans. They have confirmed additional encore performances in North America, including August 12th at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, August 18th at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, August 22nd at Oracle Park in San Francisco, and August 26th at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles. With these added dates, BLACKPINK will meet fans across 10 cities in 18 performances in North America.
