[OSEN=선미경 기자] YG put up the 4th video of their new girl group BABYMONSTER, sweeping away the hearts of global music fans.

At 12 AM on the 20th, YG Entertainment put up a video titled ‘BABYMONSTER- Introducing ASA’. The video was an introduction to 16-year-old Japanese trainee ASA. The video was followed by other introduction videos introducing RUKA, PHARITA, and RORA.

ASA went for the YG audition attracted by YG’s own hip-hop style, and got in after expressing her determination of wanting to become a K-POP artist no matter what. Ever since she became a trainee, she worked to make her dreams come true under the strategic training system of YG. ASA was the trainee that always asked questions so she doesn’t miss out on a single detail. Dance trainer LEEJUNG said, “She’s the one that asks the most questions, and that’s why she has the best understanding of everything”, complimenting her determination and attitude. That’s how ASA was able to gain the ability to express any type of groove and powerful movements, not to mention her facial expressions and gestures.

ASA’s musical abilities were also on a different level. She shocked everyone with her tongue-twist rap using her rhythmical abilities. She also shed tears while practicing her self-composed song ‘DIARY’, showing how passionate she was toward her music. Producer BIGTONE said, “She’s a perfectionist that always takes something that I teach and brings it back even better.”

RUKA, another Japanese trainee was her biggest support. She said “When I first came to Korea, she gave me so much support by staying by her side”, and they put a smile on the audience’s faces by wearing old school uniforms and taking pictures of each other.

ASA grew into an artist that has both the performance and rap ability. She was complimented with her self-composed song she presented on the monthly evaluation stage. YG Executive Producer YANG HYUN SUK said, “She can only go through coming to a different country at the age of 12 & 13 because she has a set dream and goal. She’s an amazing trainee and I want to compliment her.”

BABYMONSTER is YG’s girl group they’re releasing in 7 years since BLACKPINK. They’re all all-rounders that have vocal, dance, and rap abilities and outstanding visuals. The group is composed of 3 Koreans (AHYEON, HARAM, RORA), 2 Japanese (RUKA, ASA), and 2 Thai (PHARITA, CHIQUITA) members. This shows how YG is aiming for the global market.

Even though they haven’t made their official debut yet, they’re already being loved enormously by global music fans. They’ve already hit 1 million YouTube subscribers, and the cumulative number of views of their content has exceeded 140 million views. YG has shown how much effort they’ve put into preparing this girl group as YG Executive Producer YANG HYUN SUK announced the project himself. Expectations are running high on how they’ll take over the global market, going beyond the K-POP industry in 2023.
