BLACKPINK Becomes the First ‘K-GIRLGROUP’ To Top UK’s Album Chart·Spotify’s Weekly Chart
[연합뉴스=이태수 기자] The 2nd full album ‘BORN PINK’ took the first spot on UK’s Official Album Chart’ TOP 100′ for the first time as a K-POP girl group.
According to the latest chart released on the 23rd (local time), the group’s album took the very first spot of the list, beating out prominent artists such as Suede and Rina Sawayama
BLACKPINK’s previous highest ranking on the same chart was 2nd with its 1st full album ‘The Album’ in 2020.
UK’s Official chart is considered one of the most prestigious charts in the world along with the Billboard chart in the US. So far, group BTS was the only Korean singer to reach the top of the UK Official Chart.
On the UK’s Official Single Chart, singer PSY topped the list with its hit song ‘Gangnam Style’, which created a global syndrome in 2012.
BLACKPINK even listed their 2nd full album’s title-song ‘Shut Down’ on 24th on the UK’s Official Single Chart ‘Top 100’, and 38th for their pre-release single ‘Pink Venom’.
BLACKPINK also topped the first spot on Spotify’s ‘Top Song Global Weekly Chart’ with ‘Shut Down’, which is the world’s largest streaming platform.

The song was streamed a total of 39,186,127 times over the past week. This is the first time for a Korean singer to top Spotify’s weekly chart.
Not only ‘Shut Down’ but all their track-songs ranked in the TOP 50 range of the chart, including ‘Pink Venom’ as 5th, ‘Typa Girl’ as 14th, and ‘Hard to Love’ as 24th.
BLACKPINK showed off its global popularity by selling more than 1.54 million copies of ‘BORN PINK’ in the first week of its release based on the Hanteo Chart. As a result, the album is expected to enter the top ranks of the Billboard main album chart “Billboard 200,” which will be made clear on the 26th.
BLACKPINK’s ‘BORN PINK’ album contains a total of 8 songs of various genres, including the title song ‘Shut Down’.
