BLACKPINK’s ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’ MV Hits 2 billion Views…Most Views as a K-Pop Group

[서울경제=추승현 기자] The music video for group BLACKPINK’s ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’ reached 2 billion views on YouTube, becoming the first K-Pop music video to reach such a feat.

According to YG Entertainment on the 4th, BLACKPINK’s ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’ music video reached 2 billion views on YouTube as of 8:57am of the 4th. This comes in about 4 years and 5 months since it was released on June 15th 2018.

‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’ has been continuously renewing its own record ‘First, best, and most viewed’ title on YouTube. When looking at the recent trend of its views, the music video has been changing its first digit of its hundreds of millions of views every 3~5 months.

The song was the title song for BLACKPINK’s first mini album ‘SQUARE UP’.The addictive chorus and point choreography where the girls use their hands to make a gun shape garnered world-wide popularity and reached the top position of ‘The most viewed K-POP music video’ that year.

‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’ has also reached remarkable results on various global main charts. Right after it got released, not only did it record a ‘perfect all-kill’ on domestic music streaming sites, but it also reached 40th and 55th respectively on the U.S. Billboard 200 and Hot 100 Chart, which was an all-time best record by a K-POP girl group at the time. The song is also surpassed 500 million streams on the world’s largest music platform ‘Spotify’.
Meanwhile, BLACKPINK is currently on a world tour, the biggest of its kind as a K-Pop girl group. So far, they successfully carried out 26 performances in 15 cities, and they plan on heading to Asia and Oceania this year to meet with more global fans. Adding on to this, JISOO is also expected to carry out her solo project this year as well.
