BLACKPINK Peforms at ‘Mtv VMAs’ for the First Time as a K-Pop Girl Group “Dynamic Yet Elegant”
[뉴시스=이재훈 기자] BLACKPINK performed at the ’Video Music Awards·2022 MTV VMAs’, one of U.S.‘ major music awards ceremony, for the first time as a K-POP girl group.
BLACKPINK took the stage as an official performer which as held at the Prudential Center in New Jersey on August 28 (local time).They performed ‘Pink Venom’, which was released on the 19th as a pre-release single from their 2nd full album ‘BORN PINK’.
The members stood on the stage in black outfits elegantly, despite pulling off intense choreography. The special smog effect created a mysterious atmosphere to the song.
BLACKPINK took home the newly established ‘Best Metaverse Performance’ award at the pre-show held ahead of the actual ceremony. BLACKPINK won the award for their in-game concert on ‘’PUBG MOBILE’.
As concerts in the virtual-world have been held one after another, the 2022 MTV VMAs, which is known to be one of the four major local music awards, introduced this category quickly. Global super group ‘BTS’ was also nominated for the same category for its performance in Minecraft.
Competition was fierce for this category. Charlie XCX, who performed in Roblox, Justin Bieber, who held a concert using metaverse technology on the virtual entertainment platform Wave, Ariana Grande, who held a ‘Rift Tour’ in Fortnite, and Twenty One Pilots, who also performed in Roblox were nominated for the award.
After receiving the award, BLACKPINK member ROSÉ said, “We’re very grateful and honored”.
BLACKPINK also made an appearance on the red carpet. The four members were dressed in black dresses and appeared elegantly to the delight of fans. Despite cheers from fans, the four members responded calmly and put on lovely smiles and gestures.
The group was nominated for the Group of the Year and Best Metaverse Performance , and LISA’s ‘LALISA’ was nominated for the and Best K-pop of the year.
