Psy’s ‘Gentleman’ hits 50m views in 40 hours and ranks #1 in 19 iTune charts worldwide
Psy, his real name Park Jae-sang, is climbing the ranks of charts with his new song ‘Gentleman’ in all corners of the world.
In just 40 hours of its revelation on Youtube, it hit 50 million views and ranked number one in single charts of 19 different countries.
On April 13, Psy’s official Youtube channel unveiled his music video of ‘Gentleman’ at 9 p.m. Korean time, and after two days at 1:50p.m., 51.1million hits were accumulated just on his official channel. The viral music video has recorded 50 million views in just 40 hours.
Youtube is witnessing 1.25 million views an hour since the revelation, and if this continues, in just 80 hours – in other words 3 days and 8 hours – it will add up to 100 million views.
If this comes true, ‘Gentleman’ will be beating the record of ‘Gangman Style’, in terms of the time spent on reaching 100 million views. His previous song that helped him rise to stardom has 1.5 billion views at the moment. When the horse-ride dance was at its peak, an average of 9 million to 10 million viewers visited his Youtube channel everyday from September 4 to November 11. But ‘Gentleman’ could break its own record as 30 million clicks are being seen on a daily basis.
‘Gentleman’ is also seeing some amazing results in music charts.
At 1:35 p.m. on April 15, he ranked the top in the iTunes Top Single Song Chart in 19 countries including the Azerbaijani Republic, Belgium, Brunei, Columbia, Czech Republic, Ecuador, Finland, Hong Kong, Macau, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden, Thailand, UAE, Venezuela and Vietnam. Count in the countries he has ranked within the top ten, like the United States, then the number adds up to 70.
His popularity is not only seen in the outside world – in Korea he has swept across the nine real-time Korean music charts for four days, including Melon, Mnet, Olleh Music, bugs, Soribada, Monkey 3, Naver, Cyworld and Daum music.
