BLACKPINK JENNIE’s ‘SOLO’ Surpasses 300M Streams on Spotify… First-Ever Record by a Korean Solo Artist
[한국경제TV=유병철 기자] BLACKPINK JENNIE set another milestone as a Korean solo artist on Spotify, the world’s biggest music platform.
According to YG Entertainment on July 1, JENNIE’s solo track ‘SOLO’ has surpassed 300M streams on Spotify the day before(June 30).
It is the first time that a song by a Korean solo artist has surpassed 300M streams on Spotify. JENNIE’s ‘SOLO’ has surpasses PSY’s ‘Gangnam Style’ record last year in October and became the most streamed song by a Korean artist on Spotify.
JENNIE released ‘SOLO’ back in November 2018 as the first runner of BLACKPINK’s solo project. ‘SOLO’ has received favorable reviews with its beautiful chords in the intro, simple melody line, along with its honest and straightforward lyrics which express the confidence of not being bound to sadness even after a breakup.
JENNIE’s global presence was strong not only as a member of BLACKPINK, but also as a solo artist. ‘SOLO’ has dominated real-time·daily·weekly charts of major music platforms at the time of its release. The song also topped iTunes charts in 40 different regions, became the first-ever Korean female solo artist release to top the iTunes Worldwide Song chart, as well as entering the US iTunes Top 10.
BLACKPINK has a strong presence in Spotify. Starting with ‘Kill This Love’(400M), BLACKPINK has a total of 16 tracks with over 100M streams including ‘How You Like That'(400M), ‘Ice Cream'(300M), ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU'(300M), JENNIE’s ‘SOLO'(300M), ‘AS IF IT’S YOUR LAST'(290M) ‘BOOMBAYAH'(200M), ‘PLAYING WITH FIRE'(200M), ‘Lovesick Girls'(200M), ‘WHISTLE'(190M), ‘Forever Young'(100M), ‘Don’t Know What To Do'(100M), ‘Pretty Savage'(100M), ‘STAY'(100M), ‘Bet You Wanna'(100M), and ROSÉ’s ‘On The Ground'(100M).
BLACKPINK currently has 62.6M YouTube subscribers and 22.7M Spotify followers. They are the most subscribed and followed artist in the world. The record is very meaningful considering that Spotify and YouTube are platforms that have led the change in the global music industry trend.
Meanwhile, BLACKPINK has notified the beginning of the ‘4+1 PROJECT’, composed of 5 different events, to celebrate their upcoming 5-year debut anniversary in August. The fans are looking forward to the projects they have prepared other than ‘BLACKPINK THE MOVIE’, which will globally premiere in over 100 countries worldwide.
