“AKMU’s New Starting Point”… To Release ‘HAPPENING’ Today(16th)
[OSEN=강서정 기자] AKMU’s new single ‘HAPPENING’ will be released today(16th) at 6 PM. Since AKMU is loved by the public for their high-quality music and deep emotions, the people are paying keen attention to their comeback.
On the 16th at 9 AM, when the fans’ anticipation have hit its peak, YG Entertainment uploaded the commentary film for AKMU’s third single ‘HAPPENING’ through their official blog. LEE CHAN HYUK’s calm narration and the instrumental of ‘HAPPENING’, composed∙written and produced by himself, were contained in the film.
Regarding the song ‘HAPPENING’, LEE CHAN HYUK introduced, “It is about being protective from the regrets, failure, and memories coming from persisting emotions and relationships” and added, “I feel pity and an odd appeal when a person with emotions that are wounded and ripped apart act as if he doesn’t, and ‘HAPPENING’ is a story about those people”.
He continued, “People with wounds. People with fear. I feel like those people will feel empathy when they listen to the song. It’s more than empathy, it can be a quenching of thirst. I hope the people will find the answers to their thirst and emptiness in the end”.
It has been approximately a year and 2 months since the release of AKMU’s third album ‘Sailing’. How mature did they get since then. While the title song ‘How Can I Love the Heartbreak, You’re the One I Love’ dealt with the emotions of a breakup, their upcoming single ‘HAPPENING’ is a continuation of those emotions.
LEE CHAN HYUK explained, “I wanted to express depleted emotions and make people wonder about the parched, dried out, and unclear facial expressions”. He also raised the fans’ curiosities by adding, “I tried not to worry about the things I usually care for on our single. ‘HAPPENING’ is the song that is closest to the present LEE CHAN HYUK, among all title songs we’ve released until now”.
Furthermore, LEE CHAN HYUK made the people realize that AKMU put in a lot of careful thought regarding their musical direction. He stated, “We plan to focus on expressing each ego and emotions of LEE CHAN HYUK and LEE SUHYUN individually from now on” and explained, “‘HAPPENING’ will be the beginning of that”.
On the 16th at 5 PM, an hour prior to the release of AKMU’s new single and its MV, they will hold a live comeback show through #OUTNOW by NOW., which is Naver app’s live content service, to meet the fans earlier. They will also appear on Naver NOW.’s ‘5 Minutes Before 6’ to communicate with the fans.
AKMU’s third single ‘HAPPENING’ was written·composed·produced by LEE CHAN HYUK, while MILLENIUM who co-composed iKON’s ‘LOVE SCENARIO’ and guitarist SIHWANG participated in the creation of the track.
The people are paying keen attention on whether AKMU will release another signature masterpiece surpassing ‘How Can I Love the Heartbreak, You’re the One I Love’, which is still maintaining its Daily Top 20 position on Melon after achieving an ‘all-kill’ on major Korean music charts last year.
