BLACKPINK Charts in on Billboard Artist as No. 1 and Debuts 2 Songs on the Hot 100, “First Record by a K-Pop Girl Group”
[OSEN=지민경 기자] BLACKPINK was ranked at the US Billboard Artist 100 chart as no. 1. They also debuted 2 songs at the ‘Hot 100’, setting a meaningful milestone. They are the first-ever records set in K-Pop girl group history.
According to US Billboard charts announced on the 13th(local time), BLACKPINK topped the ‘Artist 100’ chart. The ‘Artist 100’ is a chart which accumulates music and album sales, streams, radio broadcast points, and social media activities, and is known as an index which presents the influence and popularity of Pop stars.
Furthermore, BLACKPINK was ranked at no. 59 at the ‘Hot 100’ with ‘Lovesick Girls’, the title track of their official debut album, ‘THE ALBUM’. The pre-release single ‘Ice Cream’ which features Pop star Selena Gomez was ranked at no. 64, successfully charting in on the according chart for 6 consecutive weeks.
As a result, BLACKPINK became the first-ever K-Pop group to have 2 songs from the same album charted on Billboard’s main singles chart at the same time. They’ve also set a new K-Pop girl group record by debuting a total of 7 songs in the ‘Hot 100’. Considering that the results were achieved only through music and MVs this year without promotional activities overseas, the results are meaningful.
BLACKPINK debuted at the Billboard ‘Hot 100’ back in 2018 through ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’(no. 55). The group then raised their influence through ‘Kiss And Makeup’(no. 93) collaborated with British Pop star Dua Lipa, and ‘Kill This Love’(no. 41) released last year.
