YG TREASURE to Make Speedy Comeback with ‘I LOVE YOU’ on the 18th… School Uniform Looks by Members with an Average Age of 18, ‘Expectations↑’
[OSEN=심언경 기자] YG’s rookie group TREASURE raised the global fans’ expectations on their upcoming performances by noticing their changed concept.
On September 17, YG Entertainment revealed, “TREASURE will release their new song ‘I LOVE YOU’ on the 18th and will appear on MBC ‘Show! Music Core’ on the 19th and SBS ‘Inkigayo’ on the 20th as part of their full-scale promotional activities”.
‘I LOVE YOU’ is a Dance Pop genre song with faster and stronger sounds than their debut song ‘BOY’. The lyrics state about purely moving straight for the one you love, while the phrase ‘I love you’ repeating throughout makes the song sound catchier.
TREASURE has presented street Hip-hop fashion through their debut song ‘BOY’, but will wear school uniforms for their second single, ‘I LOVE YOU’. The global fans reacted enthusiastically on the concept revealed through teaser promotion, and TREASURE’s performance outfits were eventually confirmed to be school uniforms as well.
Since school uniforms are clothes that are familiar for TREASURE, the group with an average age of 18, they are expected to freely express the pure yet reckless charms of teenage boys.
TREASURE is expected to become ‘half million sellers’, meaning they’ve achieved 500 thousand album sales in 40 days since making debut, which is unusual among rookies.
The title song ‘BOY’ from TREASURE’s first single album ‘THE FIRST STEP : CHAPTER ONE’, released on August 7, topped iTunes Top Song charts in 19 different countries, while the 240 thousand copies of the album were sold. It was the biggest album sales record among rookies who debuted in 2020. Their second single album ‘THE FIRST STEP “ CHAPTER TWO’ has already received 200 thousand pre-orders, raising the possibility to achieve the new record.
YG has previously announced that TREASURE will release new songs three times this year through an official announcement. It makes us expect that TREASURE’s accumulated album sales on their first debut year will consistently increase.
Meanwhile, TREASURE’s second single album ‘THE FIRST STEP : CHAPTER TWO’ with upgraded music and performances will be released on the 18th. Physical copies will become available on the 22nd through nationwide retailers online and offline, including YG SELECT.
