[2NE1 Series ③] K-Pop Fans Want 2NE1’s Comeback
[일간스포츠=엄동진 기자] The reaction of the fans to 2NE1’s surprise performance at MAMA was enormous. 2NE1 and BOM became most searched words in real time on major portal websites. And many fans made positive comments about their performance and welcomed them.
One comment reads, “It’s been so long since I saw them last. I’m almost crying.” Another comment says, “It’s been nearly two years and they are more powerful than before. I can feel that they’ve got better.”
2NE1 is one of the top-tier girl groups in Korea along with Girls’ Generation. But they had a long hiatus because of BOM’s alleged drug scandal. But the fans have continued to want to see 2NE1’s performances.
Many fans have been looking forward to 2NE1 not because they are good-looking. It is because they are addicted to their music. 2NE1 has many hit songs in the K-pop scene where many boy and girl groups appear and disappear. They have survived the fierce competition among many girl groups. They have numerous hit songs, including “I AM THE BEST,” which they performed at MAMA.
2NE1 is unique and distinctive when compared to other girl groups who have to be either sexy or pretty to become popular. They have many female fans who have had a “girl crush” on them. They have remained distinctive compared to other girl groups. And they have also been trend-setters in other areas than music, such as in fashion.
Before their hiatus, many experts said that 2NE1 is the only girl group that would appeal to North American fans. Their surprise appearance at MAMA was made possible not by the members themselves or the main producer YANG HYUN SUK. It was possible because so many fans have been fascinated by their music and have been looking forward to their comeback.
