“EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW OF iKON(2)”
This interview was done with BOBBY, YUN HYEONG and CHAN WOO.
Q1) How did you come to participate in the audition?
BOBBY: A friend of my brother knew that I liked hip-hop since I was little. So he told me about the audition.
SONG YUN HYEONG: When I was an art high school student, YG entertainment held an audition there. I thought participating in that audition would be a good experience, so I participated in it.
JUNG CHAN WOO: One of my friend participated in the audition, and I just went along.
Q2) Before the audition, what and how did you prepare for it?
BOBBY: I didn’t prepare something special for the audition. I just refined the raps that I liked and sang sometimes.
SONG YUN HYEONG: I liked singing, but I had never learned singing at school. So I decided to sing a song I liked.
JUNG CHAN WOO: I didn’t expect that I would participate in the audition. So just one day before the audition, I prepared singing, dancing and acting, in which I had confidence.
Q3) What did you show at the audition?
BOBBY: I focused on showing my raps, and I did show good wreck dance! Haha!
SONG YUN HYEONG: I showed the dance that I learned at school together with two songs. I heard later that the staffs did not show my dance to Mr. YANG.
JUNG CHAN WOO: I sang Kim Dong-ryul’s ‘Should I tell her I love her?’, danced a choreograph by Nick Bass, and acted a scene from the movie ‘Marine Boy’.
Q4) What did you think about the reaction of the judges? Did you expect you would pass the audition?
BOBBY: I didn’t expect it, but I had a good feeling because the judges smiled. Haha.
SONG YUN HYEONG: I never expected I would pass. As you know, most audition participants are those who prepare themselves to be singers whereas I was a student majoring in acting at high school.
JUNG CHAN WOO: In fact, the judges did not show me much reaction, so I didn’t expect I would pass (T___T)
Q5) What thoughts or feelings came to your mind right after the audition?
BOBBY: ‘Now, let’s get ready for homework!’
SONG YUN HYEONG: I had a good feeling because the judges asked me to sing two songs while others sang just one.
JUNG CHAN WOO: I thought I would need to make more efforts and have bigger hopes to be a YG singer.
Q6) What would be the most important element that YG Entertainment considers when choosing its trainees?!
BOBBY: I think it is talent and confidence.
SONG YUN HYEONG: I think the company values how well trainees show their talents and how much efforts they make.
JUNG CHAN WOO: Showing your confidence will be the most important. Also, I think the judges put importance on talents and whether trainees’ styles match the color of YG Entertainment.
Q7) Any memorable questions or comments from the judges?
BOBBY: ‘Show us another, more, more.’
SONG YUN HYEONG: The judges new that I was majoring in acting at high school, and asked me ‘why I wanted to be a singer’ because that question made me think more carefully about my dream once again.
JUNG CHAN WOO: The judges advised me that it is important to appeal to them. They liked my polite attitude when I said hello and thank you to them with smile.
Q8) What would be the ‘DOs’ and ‘DON’Ts’ at a YG audition?
BOBBY: ‘Don’t show them that you are nervous even if you are. And take the control of the flow at the audition.’ Haha, this is an awesome advice.
SONG YUN HYEONG: I would say that show your good attitude and cordially greet all judges and staff.
JUNG CHAN WOO: You should have confidence in what you have prepared and show it with confidence. And don’t sing a ballade song. (sobbing..)
Q9) How did you, your family and friends reacted at the news that you passed the audition?
BOBBY: Is this a prank call…?
SONG YUN HYEONG: I heard the news just two days after the audition, so I was so surprised and couldn’t be excited more.
JUNG CHAN WOO: It was unbelievable. My parents and friends were also happy for me.
Q10) Is there any special reason that you chose YG Entertainment among many others? Lastly, what is a good thing to be a trainee at YG Entertainment?
BOBBY: When I had strong attraction towards hip-hop, at that right time, the YG audition was held in New York. And the good thing is that trainees can use training room 24/7 and can have delicious meals!!
SONG YUN HYEONG: The company thinks outside the box and is open for trainees’ progress. Training rooms and tasty meals are available for all trainees. Yummy.
JUNG CHAN WOO: I think it has the best environment and system to help trainees make progress compared to all other entertainment companies.
