WINNER knocks down charts: “Immense pressure, but grateful and astounded”
[OSEN=선미경 기자] On sweeping across all charts immediately after their debut, YG’s new boy group WINNER commented, “We were under immense pressure, but are happy with the great outcome.”
WINNER’s member LEE SEUNG HOON commented through the agency, “When new artists like LEE HI and AKDONG MUSICIAN did an excellent job, I congratulated them, but on the other hand felt heavier pressure. Spending much time on our album seems to have paid off, and I am happy as it feels like it was a way to repay the fans who had waited for so long.”
KANG SEUNG YOON added, “I am astounded because the result is quite unexpected. I repeated to myself that I will work harder to repay the fans’ enthusiasm and attention.”
SONG MIN HO said, “It’s simply amazing. I am so grateful. I still can’t believe it. We will work harder,” while NAM TAE HYUN and KIM JIN WOO added, “We couldn’t believe it. It’s amazing. It motivates us to work harder.”
WINNER has been topping real-time charts on 9 major music sites like Melon, Olleh, Genie, Bugs Music and Mnet for 2 days in a row with their debut album “2014 S/S” released at 0 hour of August 12.
WINNER also topped 5 global iTunes including Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and Taiwan in the albums chart. Ranking #39 in the U.S. is especially meaningful because the achievement is deemed quite rare for a debuting group.
“EMPTY,” a song that expresses the emptiness after a breakup in hiphop, is a joint work by BOBBY and B.I from WINNER’s former competitor B TEAM on WIN, and is written by SONG MINHO. “COLOR RING” is a work by KANG SEUNG YOON, SONG MIN HO and LEE SEUNG HOON, in which KANG SEUNG YOON was in charge as the main producer.
WINNER’s first official debut performance will be on August 15 when YG Family holds their concert ‘AIA REAL LIFE: NOW FESTIVAL 2014’ at Seoul’s Jamsil Sports Complex. The official debut on TV will be on August 17 at Inkigayo aired through SBS.
