BLACKPINK Becomes the Only K-Pop Group to be Listed on Pitchfork’s ‘The 20 Best Music Videos of 2019’… Ranked at No. 14
[엑스포츠뉴스=전아람 기자] Girl group BLACKPINK’s music video for ‘KILL THIS LOVE’ was listed on ‘The 20 Best Music Videos of 2019’ announced by Pitchfork, the online music magazine. BLACKPINK’s ‘KILL THIS LOVE’ was the only K-Pop song that was listed.
On December 17(local time), Pitchfork announced ‘The 20 Best Music Videos of 2019’ list. ‘KILL THIS LOVE’ was ranked at no. 14 and was acknowledged for its influential power and artistic quality.
Pitchfork praised the abundant and original ideas, storytelling, clothing, and filming which composed the music video for ‘KILL THIS LOVE’. In addition, the magazine highlighted BLACKPINK’s high status within the K-Pop music video scene.
BLACKPINK’s ‘KILL THIS LOVE’ set numerous milestones this year, setting a new standard among all K-Pop girl groups.
The music video became the fastest K-Pop group video to surpass 200 million views after surpassing 100 million views in 62 hours since its release on April. The video was ranked at no. 8 on YouTube’s ‘Most Watched Music Video of 2019’ list(currently at 680 million views), coloring the entire globe with the ‘KILL THIS LOVE’ fever.
The video also won ‘The Music Video of 2019’ award during the ‘E! People’s Choice Awards’, where the group won awards in a total of 3 categories. Their achievement made the people realize BLACKPINK’s global popularity, once again.
Also, the song ‘KILL THIS LOVE’ was ranked at no. 66 on the ‘100 Best Songs of 2019: Staff List’ announced by Billboard. BLACKPINK was the only K-Pop girl group that was included in the list.
At the time of its release, ‘KILL THIS LOVE’ entered Billboard’s main charts including the ‘Hot 100’ and ‘Billboard 200’ as no. 41 and no. 24, respectively. The song also wrote the first and best record in K-Pop girl group history by remaining on both charts for 4 consecutive weeks.
