BABYMONSTER Surpasses 1.7 Million Album Sales in Just One Year Since Debut, Establishing Themselves as ‘Monstrous Rookies’
[OSEN=선미경 기자] YG’s rookie girl group BABYMONSTER has exceeded a cumulative total of 1.72 million album sales just one year after their official debut, continually proving their boundless potential and setting themselves up for even greater leaps in the latter half of 2025.
BABYMONSTER launched their debut on April 1 last year and quickly followed up with their first full-length album and inaugural world tour, achieving massive projects at an unprecedented pace for newcomers. Billboard heralded them as “the most promising K-POP newcomer of 2024,” a prediction that BABYMONSTER has far surpassed, marking a significant year of growth.
#Demonstrating Power with Chart-Topping Songs… Solidifies Their Position As ‘Monstrous Newcomer’
The explosive rise of BABYMONSTER is rooted in their sheer talent. Their broad musical spectrum and high-quality music, alongside live handheld mic performances across various music shows, radio, and year-end stages, have consistently resonated, fueling their popularity surge.
The tracks ‘SHEESH’ and ‘DRIP’ instantly climbed the charts on major domestic music platforms like Melon after their performances, sparking a reverse charting phenomenon. ‘DRIP’ notably reached new personal bests at #16 and #30 on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S and Billboard Global 200 charts, respectively, maintaining a presence on the charts for 16 and 20 consecutive weeks and continuing a long-running popularity streak.
On Spotify, the world’s largest music streaming platform, ‘SHEESH’ set the record for the highest debut among 2024 K-POP girl group songs, quickly signaling its popularity. Subsequent releases have also been warmly received by listeners, with total streaming numbers surpassing 1.1 billion. The impact made with just two albums has everyone watching their next moves closely.
#Soaring Popularity on Albums and YouTube… Powerful Fandom Strength
A solidified fanbase has been a driving force behind their growth. Their mini first album [BABYMONS7ER] set a new record for the highest first-week sales for a K-POP girl group debut album at 401,287 copies, and their first full album [DRIP] increased sales by approximately 1.7 times to 677,961 copies, marking their first entry into the Billboard 200 at #149. With cumulative sales now exceeding 1.72 million copies, they are on the brink of reaching million-seller status.
Their YouTube presence is also unmatched, with subscriber numbers increasing by approximately 4.28 million since their official debut, reaching a total of 8.89 million. Videos with hundreds of millions of views, including the record-breaking debut song ‘SHEESH’ music video, contribute to a total channel view count of over 4.2 billion.
#Massive Fan Meetings to World Tours… Standing Tall as a Global Phenomenon
Last year, BABYMONSTER held fan meetings across seven cities for a total of twelve shows and participated in Japan’s ‘Summer Sonic’ and the Chinese-speaking region’s ‘TMEA’ music festivals, continually expanding their fan interactions. This year, their debut world tour has expanded to include 32 shows across 20 cities, doubling the scale of last year’s fan meetings.
With the 2025 second half still to unfold, BABYMONSTER’s global popularity is expected to surge even further. As they continue their world tour, their live performance skills are highly anticipated to blossom, imprinting their presence across various international stages and media, from TV to radio to YouTube.
Since their impactful debut, BABYMONSTER’s growth narrative is just beginning. YG Entertainment expressed, “We will continue to provide unwavering support to unfold their endless potential and musical capabilities as artists. Please look forward to various projects in the latter half of 2025, and we ask for your continued interest.”
