[JTBC=김연지 기자] Leadership shines brightest when shown through actions. YG Entertainment’s Executive Producer YANG HYUN SUK has recently garnered attention for his notable actions. Amid G-Dragon’s (real name Kwon Ji-yong) activities with new agency Galaxy Corporation, he has received the rights to use his stage names “G-Dragon” and “GD” from YG Entertainment without any fees.

Galaxy Corporation stated, “We now own the rights to the names ‘G-Dragon’ and ‘GD’ thanks to YANG HYUN SUK’s consideration, allowing the transfer without any cost.” G-Dragon debuted with the group Big Bang under YG Entertainment in 2006, using the name G-Dragon, a translation of his real name’s last character, and shortened to GD. This trademark transfer enables him to continue using his stage names without restrictions.

Such a transfer without fees is quite unprecedented in the entertainment industry. Typically, artists face legal issues when their exclusive contracts expire if they continue using their group or stage names without their former agency’s consent. YANG HYUN SUK’s decision is highly regarded as it respects the time and effort that artists and fans have built together. The same applies to 2NE1, who have continued using their stage names even after their contracts with YG ended.

YANG HYUN SUK’s leadership and generous decisions have led to 2NE1 reuniting for their 15th debut anniversary. It will be their first concert together in over 10 years. Recently, Yang announced the 2NE1 comeback news through YG’s official YouTube channel, stating, “2NE1 was the first girl group launched and found success under YG. The members expressed their desire to hold a concert for their 15th anniversary, and we’ve had a delightful meeting about making it happen this year. Starting in Seoul in early October, venues are booked in Osaka and Tokyo by the end of November and December.” The fact that the members, none of whom are currently signed with YG, approached YANG HYUN SUK to discuss a full-group concert is noteworthy.

Despite the challenges of securing international venues on short notice, YG has managed the best arrangements possible, including plans to kick off the performances in Korea as per the members’ wishes. “Booking venues typically requires months of advance notice, both domestically and internationally. Although larger venues were already booked, securing Olympic Hall was indeed fortunate. We regret not being able to accommodate more fans locally but promise a high-quality performance and look forward to sharing more good news,” YG stated.

YANG HYUN SUK’s impactful leadership will continue in the latter half of the year. YG is preparing for BLACKPINK’s 8th debut anniversary public appearance. BLACKPINK will attend in full at the ‘BLACKPINK WORLD TOUR [BORN PINK] IN CINEMAS’ press conference on August 9th at Yeongdeungpo Times Square, Seoul. Amidst many new mega rookies debuting this year, BABYMONSTER has caught the public’s eye and is poised to expand globally. There is keen interest in whether BABYMONSTER will establish itself as the leading rookie girl group of 2024.
