BABYMONSTER, to Release New Song on February 1st… YG’s YANG HYUN SUK Officially Appears after 7 Months: “I Care for Them Like My Daughters”
[OSEN=최나영 기자] YG’s Executive Producer YANG HYUN SUK revealed the 2024 activity blueprint for BABYMONSTER, which includes fast-paced and aggressive promotions.
YG Entertainment posted a video titled ‘BABYMONSTER NEXT PHASE | YG Announcement’ on their official blog at midnight on January 1, 2024. This marks YANG HYUN SUK’s first official appearance in about seven months since the final member announcement of BABYMONSTER, YG’s next-generation girl group, last May, where he personally explained their future activity plans.
YANG has been overseeing everything from BABYMONSTER’s training to their post-debut process. Regarding this, he said, “In the case of 2NE1 and BLACKPINK, most members debuted in their 20s, so I treated them more like junior singers. But BABYMONSTER’s youngest member CHIQUITA is just 14 years old, a year older than my own daughter”, he laughed, adding, “I tend to take care of them more meticulously, like daughters, rather than just as artists under my label”.
Under the full support of YG Entertainment and YANG HYUN SUK, BABYMONSTER will release their second song on February 1st. The title is ‘Stuck In The Middle’. YANG said, “It seems like a song that YG has never released before”, praising it as “a very beautiful song that makes you want to close your eyes and concentrate on even the smallest breath, with the members’ outstanding vocal abilities and unique timbres.
As YANG introduced, this comeback is expected to showcase another charm of BABYMONSTER. It’s a 180-degree turn from their hip-hop genre debut song ‘BATTER UP,’ signifying their intent to grow into an artist group that transcends various genres through music that showcases their musical spectrum.
Additionally, following the release of ‘Stuck In The Middle’, YANG also announced BABYMONSTER’s first mini-album set to be released in April. Reflecting fans’ opinions, YG is adopting a different promotion strategy with added momentum. After their official debut at the end of November with a musical variation in the new song released in February, and then a comeback in April with their first mini-album, the detailed two-month roadmap has been fully unveiled. The active steps of ‘K-pop game changer’ BABYMONSTER are expected to receive enthusiastic responses from global fans.
BABYMONSTER debuted on November 27 last year with their first digital single ‘BATTER UP.’ This song’s music video broke the record for the most views in 24 hours for a K-pop debut song, then surpassed 50 million views (in 4 days) and 100 million views (in 18 days), setting the record for the fastest K-pop group debut song to do so. Despite being newcomers for just over a month, they have been on an upward trend, exceeding 4 million YouTube subscribers.
