BLACKPINK Dominates UK’s ‘Hyde Park’… “Beyond K-Pop, A Global Group”
[마이데일리=노한빈 기자] Group BLACKPINK has brilliantly decorated the ‘Hyde Park’ stage.
On July 2nd (local time), BLACKPINK successfully completed their performance at the ‘British Summer Time Festival’ held at Hyde Park in London. Following their April performance at the American ‘Coachella’, they once again made a significant mark as the first K-pop artist headliner at the UK’s most prestigious music festival.
‘Hyde Park’ is a festival where world-renowned pop stars and music fans gather to enjoy various genres such as rock, hip-hop, electronic, and R&B. Despite it being their first appearance, BLACKPINK attracted an audience of 65,000 (according to BBC statistics), selling out the venue and showcasing their widespread popularity and strong ticket power.
BLACKPINK started the show in the midst of the crowd’s intense excitement with ‘Pink Venom,’ ‘How You Like That,’ and ‘Pretty Savage.’ From a medley of hit songs to solo performances showcasing each of the four members’ unique charms, powerful band sounds and overwhelming live performances fueled the audience’s adrenaline.
Their dominant control and relaxed stage manners shone brightly. Members freely roamed around the protruding stage and various parts of the stage, and interacted with the audience by handing them microphones, leading the atmosphere. The music fans responded with a sea of pink light sticks and rapturous collective singing, raising the temperature on site.
The high-quality stage production befitting BLACKPINK’s status as a global artist intensified the immersion. The sensory graphics changing with the rhythm of the music, colorful lighting, spectacular fireworks, fog, confetti, and other special effects combining YG’s performance know-how all satisfied the senses.
After running non-stop for about 90 minutes, BLACKPINK thanked their fans for their concert-like cheering. They expressed their gratitude, saying, “It is truly an honor to be on the stage at Hyde Park in the UK. Our dreams have come true.”
After the festival, the local media heavily spotlighted BLACKPINK’s activities. BBC commented, “BLACKPINK has made a new history. They are now one of the biggest groups in the world beyond K-pop,” and NME said, “K-pop is not yet mainstream at UK music festivals, but everything could change with the start of BLACKPINK’s performance.”
Meanwhile, BLACKPINK is currently on their world tour ‘BLACKPINK WORLD TOUR ‘BORN PINK’, which is expected to attract about 1.5 million people, making it the largest scale world tour for a K-pop girl group.
