[OSEN=지민경 기자] YG Entertainment’s rookie girl group, BABYMONSTER, has shaken the hearts of global music fans with their monstrous skills and talent, living up to the label of ‘Monster Rookie.’

On April 14, YG Entertainment posted BABYMONSTER’s ‘Last Evaluation’ EP.6 on their official social media channels. The video features jaw-dropping solo vocal mission stages by CHIQUITA, who overcame a rough patch; RORA, flaunting her hip-hop vibes; and HARAM, armed with a soulful voice.

CHIQUITA, who had previously teared up over a sudden COVID-19 diagnosis before the competition, penned her own drama by perfectly reinterpreting ‘traitor’ with her flawless vocals. Senior artists applauded and cheered, with YOON of WINNER praising, “She seemed like a fully-fledged singer. The highlight gave me goosebumps.”

Next, RUKA captivated with her hip-hop aura in ‘Astronaut In The Ocean’ and ‘MTBD’. Her swirling rap and powerful energy filled the stage, while her relaxed gestures and facial expressions heightened the immersion. YG Executive Producer YANG HYUN SUK, praised her by saying, “She is cool in and of herself. She’s the member with the hip-hop DNA.”

HARAM showcased her unique soulful groove and excellent vocal control in her performance of ‘Pick Up Your Feelings.’ Not only did she effortlessly transition between her head and chest voice, but she also surprised everyone by composing the bridge melody and lyrics. HOONY couldn’t help but express his admiration, saying, “The stage was completely overwhelming.”

Lastly, AHYEON chose ‘I DID IT,’ pouring her heart into the performance, even adding her self-written rap. However, she received feedback during the mid-evaluation that her song choice was overly ambitious. Overwhelmed by the thought of starting from scratch, AHYEON regained her focus and chose ‘Dangerously,’ an unexplored genre for her, dedicating herself to practice.

At the end of the video, the first group vocal mission was teased, presenting a difficult task that required unity in part distribution and harmony completion. Attention is now focused on AHYEON’s individual stage in the new challenge and the group vocal mission process in the upcoming seventh episode.

Meanwhile, BABYMONSTER is YG’s first girl group in nearly seven years since BLACKPINK. The potential members include three Koreans (AHYEON, HARAM, RORA), two Thais (PHARITA, CHIQUITA), and two Japanese (RUKA, ASA), most of whom are teenagers. The debut reality show “Last Evaluation” for final member selection is released every Friday at midnight.
