BLACKPINK To Perform at US Coachella As Headliners…First as a K-Pop Artist
[뉴스엔=이민지 기자] Group BLACKPINK is to take the stage of the biggest music festival in the U.S., the ‘Coachella Music and Arts Festival (hereinafter referred to as ‘Coachella’).
Upon releasing their 2023 lineup on the 11th of January (local time), Coachella announced that BLACKPINK will appear as the festival’s headliners on the 15th and 22nd of April.
Coachella, which boasts its tradition and reputation starting from 1999, is a music festival held in Indio, California, and has been holding around 300,000 audiences every year. The size of the venue is approximately 92 times bigger than Seoul’s Jamsil Stadium, and the festival is a place where cultural exchanges happen not only in music but in fashion and lifestyle as well.
BLACKPINK previously made an appearance at Coachella back in 2019, which was the first for a K-Pop girl group. BLACKPINK has now become the first K-Pop artist to take the stage of Coachella as a headline, making another history in the K-Pop scene.
BLACKPINK had also made an appearance at Coachella’s 20th Anniversary documentary ‘Coachella: 20 Years in the Desert’ and proved their influence in the global market along with world-renowned pop stars. Attention is being drawn to what kind of performance they’ll put on as the festival’s headliners.
BLACKPINK will also appear as headliners at the ‘Hyde Park British Summer Time Festival’ in July, the largest music festival in the UK. They’re the first K-Pop artist to make an appearance at the festival. Appearing as headliners on both the biggest festivals in the U.S. and UK for the first time as a K-Pop artist, BLACKPINK is constantly proving their presence in the global music industry.
