Girl group BLACKPINK appeared on Coachella’s 20th-year anniversary documentary. BLACKPINK’s global presence was proven once again, as they’ve decorated the commemorative moment of the biggest music festival in the US with global Pop stars.

On April 11, BLACKPINK appeared on ‘THE NEXT GENERATION’ chapter of ‘Coachella: 20 Years in the Desert’, which is Coachella’s 20th-year anniversary documentary.

BLACKPINK appeared on screen after Beyoncé. Despite being their first-ever performance at Coachella, BLACKPINK presented explosive performances and singing. The audience cheered at each movement made by BLACKPINK and showed passionate reactions.

On an interview held with the production team, BLACKPINK revealed, “We thought nobody would know our music, but everyone started yelling, ‘BLACKPINK IN YOUR AREA’. It was very thrilling”.

Khalid, the global R&B artist, visited BLACKPINK’s waiting room and exchanged greetings with the members. Khalid supported BLACKPINK by singing the chorus of ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’ and stating, “Congratulations on the debut(in Coachella) of the best girl group in K-Pop. I look forward to your performance”.

In addition to Khalid, Paul Tollett, the founder of Coachella, Jaden Smith, the well-known American rapper, and DJ Diplo visited BLACKPINK’s waiting room at the time. Celebrities of the global music scene gathered in one place to congratulate BLACKPINK’s Coachella debut.

Last year, BLACKPINK was invited to Coachella’s Sahara stage as the sub-headliner. The festival was held in Indio, California. As the representative of all K-Pop groups, BLACKPINK left a strong impression with their dominant presence and stage manners.

They’ve become a hot topic not only in the States, but also in the entire globe. BLACKPINK’s performance at Coachella was live streamed on the screen of Times Square, New York, which a lot of fans gathered to watch despite the rainy weather.

After their performance was finished, their performance clip was shared and spread out through YouTube and social media. ‘BLACKPINK X Coachella’ was ranked at no. 1 on Twitter’s worldwide real-time trend rankings. Major foreign press spotlighted their performance by writing, “Everyone praised BLACKPINK”, “BLACKPINK’s outfits and choreography puts audience in awe”, and “Fans fall in love after watching BLACKPINK’s performances”.

Experts did not miss the implications of ‘Coachella Festival’, the historical scene where one can realize the trend of modern music. Coachella 2019 was highly affected by the media trend known as the ‘Online video era’, which influenced the artist lineup as well as the entire music industry.
