YG TREASURE Sells 700,000 Copies for First Album…Breaks Own Record
[뉴스1=정유진 기자] Boy group TRASURE is continuously setting its own best record everyday upon its comeback.
According to YG Entertainment on the 19th, TREASURE’s first mini-album ‘THE SECOND STEP : CHAPTER ONE’ sold more than 700,000 copies as of 2pm the previous day. This is the highest record for a single TREASURE album. For the first year of TREASURE’s debut which was in 2020, 3 of the single albums sold around 240,000~280,000 copies, and the first full album which was released in 2021 sold around 360,000 copies.
It’s not just the album sales that doubled. When looking at TREASURE’s mini-album sales ratio by country, the U.S. accounted for more than 20% of the sales figure, going beyond countries such as South Korea, Japan, China, and other Southeast Asian countries.
When looking at topping the iTunes chart, the number of countries they came first got expanded from the existing 18~19 countries to 30. It shows how TREASURE’s connection with global fandom has expanded.
Their presence and influence in Japan, which is the second largest music market and where TREASURE stood out first, has also become much stronger.
In fact, JIKIN headed straight towards the top spot of Japan’s Line Music Song Top 100 as soon as it was released on the 15th. It then swept all major Japanese sites the next day on Rakuten Music, iTunes, AWA, and mu-mo. Treasure’s previous album title-songs have succeeded in staying on top spot of Line Music chart, but it’s the first time their song has taken over the top spots of major music streaming sites at the same time. It’s also noticeable how the song was not released in Japanese yet stilled reached such a feat.
TREASURE is also reaching a ‘career-high’ on YouTube as well. The M/V reached 10 million views in 21 hours since it was released and soon surpassed 20 million views after 2 days and 19 hours since release. Their popularity has never soared so high in such a short period of time.
Trendy videography and overwhelming scale of the album gained popularity among global fans. Fans are saying TREASURE’s youth and bold determination racing in a super-car created perfect balance with members’ danceable hip-hop swag.
