‘Kingdom’ iKON Begins to Twist From the Lowest Ranked Team… A Fiery Performance of ‘LOVE SCENARIO’+’KILLING ME’
[OSEN=선미경 기자] iKON proved their status with a strong and sharpened performance on the first round, on their way to the ‘Kingdom’.
On Mnet’s ‘Kingdom: Legendary War’(hereby ‘Kingdom’) aired on the 8th, the introduction performance rankings and the first-round performances were revealed. iKON was previously ranked at no. 1 on the ‘Kingdom’ final rank predictions made by the participating teams themselves. However, the results were different. It could’ve frustrated iKON, but it only made them motivate themselves.
DK raised anticipation on their upcoming performances by stating, “We’ll work really hard from our first-round performance”. SONG revealed his positive attitude by stating, “We can only rise from here”, while JU-NE stated, “I felt like ‘Let’s enjoy it more’”.
The 1st round competition theme of ‘Kingdom’ was ‘TO THE WORLD’. The teams had to grab the global fans’ hearts with a song and message which they wanted to share to the world, while iKON selected ‘LOVE SCENARIO’ and ‘KILLING ME’. ‘LOVE SCENARIO’ is a mage-hit song which won 11 music broadcast titles, 2 grand awards, and no. 1 spots on various music platforms for quite a long time. iKON added their representative track ‘KILLING ME’ as well, and decided to present a performance with a clear story.
The decision was made with the advice from MINO and YOON, the senior artists from YG. The two people wanted iKON to present a unique performance based on ‘LOVE SCENARIO’. Furthermore, they cheered the members up sincerely as MINO stated, “You guys are really cool”, while YOON told them, “iKON will become the kings of ‘Kingdom’”.
iKON’s 1st round performance began with BOBBY’s rap. He made the viewers immersed into their performance by presenting the rap of ‘LOVE SCENARIO’ in a sophisticated way. The chorus of ‘LOVE SCENARIO’, familiar to people of all generations and gender came out, as iKON completed a unique version of ‘LOVE SCENARIO’ with their varied movements and joyful choreography which reminded the viewers of a musical.
The lovely mood changed as ‘KILLING ME’ started playing along with the thunder and siren sounds. iKON expressed a man’s changing emotions after a breakup with a fierce group dance. As the song reached its climax, iKON began showing off their unique Hip-hop swag.
CHAN’s performance of throwing a lighter behind him and making flames explode was impressive. With the burning background in red, iKON presented fantastic gestures, cool facial expressions, and exciting dance moves, completing the ‘Kingdom’ version of ‘LOVE SCENARIO’+’KILLING ME’.
Through their 1st round performance, iKON proved that they could fit with not only Hip-hop, but also with various genres and concepts. Their limitless performances, with a broad musical spectrum, will continue to be presented. The global fans who have watched iKON’s performance on ‘Kingdom’ responded, “I look forward to them since they’ve only showed one fourth of what they are”, “A group with different class”, and “iKON’s future will prosper”.
