BLACKPINK’s ‘Ice Cream’ Selected as ‘The Best Pop Collaborations of 2020’ by Rolling Stone

[한경닷컴=이준현 기자] BLACKPINK was listed on ‘The Best Pop Collaborations of 2020’ announced by Rolling Stone, the famous American music magazine, which proved their global presence.

On December 15(local time), Rolling Stone announced ‘The Best Pop Collaborations of 2020’ list. Among the 18 songs selected by Rolling Stone, BLACKPINK and Selena Gomez’s ‘Ice Cream’ was the only K-Pop song included on the list.

Rolling Stone reviewed, “BLACKPINK and Lady Gaga’s collaboration on ‘Sour Candy’ was just a teaser for bigger things to come. While BLACKPINK has stormed the charts with their girl-crush music, ‘Ice Cream’ showcased a softer, more subtle side to the group with its playfulness and cuteness. The members’ vocals also maintained their unique charms while creating a perfect harmony with Selena Gomez”.

They also spotlighted BLACKPINK’s achievements this year through continuous collaborations with Pop stars by adding, “BLACKPINK never needed anyone’s stamp of approval to find success, but their collaboration with Lady Gaga and Selena Gomez went a long way towards exposing the group to a larger audience”.

‘Ice Cream’, released back in August, has topped the iTunes Worldwide Chart and was ranked at no. 13 on the US Billboard ‘Hot 100’ after its release, which set the best K-Pop girl group record. The song also charted-in the according chart for 8 consecutive weeks.

Furthermore, its MV has surpassed 400M views on YouTube in 80 days since its release and has surpassed 200M streams on Spotify, the world’s biggest music streaming platform, and is continuing to set milestones.

Their achievement came through only music and a MV without official promotional activities, which adds more meaning.

With its glamorous achievement in the global music industry, ‘Ice Cream’ is appearing on numerous year-end lists of 2020 announced by established global media, proving the group’s strong influence.

BLACKPINK has been previously ranked at no. 13 on Rolling Stone’s ‘The Best Songs of 2020’ list with ‘Ice Cream’, becoming the only K-Pop ‘.girl group included on the list. They were also the only K-Pop group to be ranked at the ‘Top 10 Songs of the Year’ list announced by Associated Press and was listed as no. 74 on Billboard’s ‘The 100 Best Songs of 2020: Staff Picks’.

Meanwhile, BLACKPINK has recently received the ‘Group of the Year’ award for the first time as a K-Pop group at the US ‘Variety Hitmakers’.

They also won 2 trophies(Best Female Dance Award·Top 10) at the ‘2020 Melon Music Awards(MMA)’, 3 trophies(Best Female Group·Best Female Group Dance Performance·Worldwide Fans’ Choice) at the ‘2020 Mnet Asian Music Awards(MAMA)’, received the ‘Global Popular Group’ award at China QQ Music’s ‘Boom Boom Awards’, and was selected as the ‘2020 Visionary’ by CJ ENM.
