BLACKPINK at ‘No. 13’ on the Billboard Hot 100… Best K-Pop Girl Group Record
[국민일보=김수련 인턴기자] Group BLACKPINK was ranked at no. 13 on Billboard’s main singles chart with ‘Ice Cream’, which is the best K-Pop girl group record.
On September 8(local time), Billboard revealed that BLACKPINK and Selena Gomez’s ‘Ice Cream’ entered the Hot 100 chart as no. 13. They renewed their own previous K-Pop girl group record, no. 33, placing themselves on the top ranks with BTS who has topped the according chart for 2 consecutive weeks.
Beginning with their debut on the Hot 100 with ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’(no. 55) back in 2018, the group was ranked at no. 93 with ‘Kiss and Make Up’ collaborated with British artist Dua Lipa, at no. 41 with ‘Kill This Love’, and at no. 33 with ‘How You Like That’, showing steady growth.
Billboard revealed that BLACKPINK is the first female group to have 3 songs debut within the top 40 on the Hot 100 chart after the American female group, ‘Fifth Harmony’.
BLACKPINK was also ranked at no. 2 on the ‘Digital Song Sales’ chart. The song ‘Ice Cream’ reached 18.3M streams and 23 thousand downloads on the first week in the States.
They also entered the ‘Pop Songs’ chart as no. 32. The chart is known as a barrier to artists from non-English speaking countries. The ‘Pop Songs’ chart aggregates radio plays, and it was announced that 5.1M people listened to ‘Ice Cream’.
Meanwhile, BLACKPINK will release their official debut album titled ‘THE ALBUM’ next month on the 2nd, which includes songs ‘How You Like That’ and ‘Ice Cream’. They’ve surpassed 800 thousand pre-orders in 6 days since they began taking orders last month on the 28th and is expected to set a new album sales record in K-Pop girl group history.
The group will also appear on Netflix’s first-ever K-Pop documentary, ‘BLACKPINK: Light Up the Sky’ next month on the 14th.
