[스타뉴스=문완식 기자] Group BLACKPINK became the first K-Pop group to surpass 1.3B views on YouTube.

According to YG Entertainment on September 6, BLACKPINK’s ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’ MV surpassed 1.3B views on YouTube on the 5th at 10:15 PM. It is a milestone set for the first time among all groups of K-Pop, achieved in 2 years and 2 months since its release.

The ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’ MV set a new record 2 months ago by surpassing 1.2B views and added another 100M views to its record. The increase pace got even faster. It took 4 months for the video to reach 1.1B from 1B, 3 months to reach 1.2B from 1.1B, and approximately 2 months to reach 1.3B from there.

‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’ is the title song of BLACKPINK’s first-ever mini album, ‘SQUARE UP’, released back in 2018. Their point move of shooting pistols in their both hands became popular, assisting the video to become ‘The Most Watched K-Pop Video’ in the according year.

‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’ also achieved remarkable success in major music charts in and out of Korea. The song not only achieved a ‘perfect all-kill’ on Korean music charts as soon as the song was released, but also set the best K-Pop girl group record on the US Billboard 200 and Hot 100 by being ranked at no. 40 and no. 55, respectively.

Furthermore, ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’ recently surpassed 300M streams on Spotify, the world’s biggest music platform, proving the steady love and support from global music fans.

BLACKPINK has raised their influence in the global music market by releasing new songs consecutively this year. After pre-heating with the song ‘Sour Candy’ collaborated with Lady Gaga on May, the group released 2 pre-release singles ‘How You Like That’ and ‘Ice Cream’ which both achieved commercial success, growing the group’s presence even more.

BLACKPINK’s official YouTube channel is also racking up subscribers at a fast pace and is currently at over 47M. It is the third biggest figure among all artists in the world.

BLACKPINK is the only K-Pop group to hold two MVs with over 1B views, including ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’ and ‘Kill This Love’. Considering dance practice videos and music broadcast videos, they are the ‘YouTube Queens’ who have a total of 21 videos with over 100M views. Since the ‘BOOMBAYAH’ MV is also heading towards 1B views, it seems that BLACKPINK’s record march will continue.

Meanwhile, BLACKPINK’s latest single ‘Ice Cream’ was ranked at no. 1 the iTunes Worldwide Song chart on the 28th, which was the date of the song’s release. The song was then ranked at no. 4 and no. 3 on Spotify’s Global Top 50 and US Top 50 chart respectively. The song also entered the UK Official Singles Top 100 chart announced on the 4th(local time) as no. 39.
