‘WIN→Show Me The Money→MIX & MATCH’, BOBBY of iKON Will Continue His Run in 2020
[엑스포츠뉴스=이덕행 기자] Making debut through an audition program is common among idols these days. As there are more programs being produced, many of them participate on more than once show.
It’s also familiar for idol members to participate on vocal or Hip-hop competition programs. However, it’s still uncommon to see idol members winning first place on Hip-hop competition programs. Here, we have a member who has experienced two audition programs in addition to winning 1st place on a Hip-hop survival show. That is, BOBBY of iKON.
BOBBY first let his presence known among the public through the program ‘WIN:WHO IS NEXT’, produced by YG Entertainment. It was a program with an unusual concept of letting two teams compete, while the winning team gets to make debut. BOBBY was the rapper of TEAM B. He energetically rapped in his strong low-tone voice while presenting his innocent charms when he wasn’t on stage, which allowed him to get popular among the viewers of the show.
However, TEAM B did not get to make debut. During the show ‘WIN’, Lee Hyundo stated that BOBBY would become a hit if he appeared on ‘Show Me The Money’, which turned into reality. BOBBY appeared on ‘Show Me The Money 3’ with B.I and won first place. His performance of ‘YGGR’ + ‘Hip-hop’ during the semifinals is known as a legendary performance, even considering all seasons of ‘Show Me The Money’, and is currently at over 20 million views.
BOBBY then appeared on ‘MIX & MATCH’ to prepare for his debut. BOBBY appeared on the program although his debut was confirmed along with members B.I and JAY, but showed off his tight friendship by stating, “It is my wish for all 6 of us to make debut together”.
After the show MIX & MATCH, BOBBY made debut as a member of iKON. iKON released multiple hits including their debut single, ‘MY TYPE’. Their song ‘LOVE SCENARIO’, released back in 2018, became a mega-hit which even kindergarten kids can sing-along to. BOBBY was also active as a unit titled ‘MOBB’ with WINNER’s MINO and even released a solo album, in addition to his activities as a member of iKON.
BOBBY has experienced both audition programs and a Hip-hop competition show. The year 2020 will be another test for BOBBY and iKON. It is because leader B.I has left the group due to a scandalous incident, which led iKON to reform as a 6-member group. After making comeback on the 6th with their 3rd mini album ‘i DECIDE’, iKON achieved successful results which overshined their long period of vacancy.
