[X’s FOCUS] JENNIE=Female GD Wasn’t Just Words

As of November 15, 9 AM, JENNIE’s ‘SOLO’ is placed at no. 1 on 8 different real-time music charts including Melon, Genie, Soribada, Bugs, Olleh Music, Mnet, Naver Music, and Monkey 3. The song has maintained its no. 1 spot in all Korean real-time music charts for 4 days, since its release on the 12th.
‘SOLO’ is a song in a Hip-Hop genre incorporating elements of Pop music that expresses a confident solo who does not get tied to sadness even after a breakup, using direct and sincere lyrics. The song was composed and written by producer TEDDY who worked on all songs released by BLACKPINK, while producer 24 also participated in the composing of the song.
JENNIE’s challenge as the first runner of BLACKPINK’s solo project is achieving good results. The song is spreading through word of mouth not only in Korea, but also in overseas markets.
JENNIE’s ‘SOLO’ entered the US iTunes Top 10 for the first time as a Korean female solo artist, while the MV surpassed 23 million views in 38 hours since its release. She became the artist with the highest number of YouTube views in a period of 24 hours.
Furthermore, JENNIE also topped the iTunes Worldwide Song Chart Top 200 for the first time as a Korean female solo artist. She achieved the milestone among global Pop stars including Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande, establishing herself as a global diva.
She is also receiving the spotlight from foreign media channels. UK Metro mentioned JENNIE’s success by writing, “JENNIE’s ‘SOLO’ entered the US iTunes Chart Top 10 for the first time as a Korean female solo artist”. US Billboard wrote, “JENNIE presented various glittering choreographies through the MV for ‘SOLO’, while also looking glamorous in designer outfits. The lovely and trendy style grabs the viewers’ attention”.
In addition, JENNIE’s ‘SOLO’ topped iTunes Charts in 40 different countries including Argentina, Armenia, Finland, Greece, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Singapore, Slovenia, Spain, and Vietnam.
YG Entertainment (abbreviated as YG) announced a ‘solo project’ by BLACKPINK, notifying the release of solo tracks by all 4 members of BLACKPINK. The first runner was JENNIE.
