[Oh!SSEN FOCUS] “From ‘LOVE SCENARIO’ to ‘KILLING ME’”… iKON’s Performance History
[OSEN=김은애 기자] iKON is well-known as the group without any ‘choreography holes’. It’s because they always come up with a ‘legendary performance’.
As always, iKON completed a perfect group dance with their new song ‘KILLING ME’ released on the 2nd. The members themselves confidently stated that the difficulty of the moves have gone up. What kind of performances did iKON go through since making debut, until performing their latest release ‘KILLING ME’.
#2015 ‘RHYTHM TA‘
After making debut in the K-Pop scene with their warm-up single ‘MY TYPE’ back in 2015, they proved their talents as the ‘monster rookies’ through the release of their first-ever half album, ‘WELCOME BACK’. While they presented sweet and comfortable vibes through the song ‘MY TYPE’, they revealed different vibes through the song ‘RHYTHM TA’ from their debut album. The choreography of the song played a huge role in the group’s change in image.
The match between elated Hip-hop rhythm and dance moves by members of iKON were enough to fill various stages where iKON performed ‘RHYTHM TA’. The fancy yet restrained moves that matched the fierce trap beat of ‘RHYTHM TA’ grabbed the audience’s attention. The free performances by members on each part also captivated the eyes of viewers. The dance moves with iKON’s unique swag made their performances interesting to watch.
Furthermore, the world-famous choreographer Parris Goebel, known for her works including the movie ‘Step Up 5’, GD X TAEYANG’s ‘GOOD BOY’, TAEYANG’s ‘RINGA LINGA’, and BIGBANG’s ‘BANG BANG BANG’ participated in the creation of iKON’s choreography, adding her unique and dynamic style of dancing.
#2015 ‘DUMB&DUMBER’ + ‘WHAT’S WRONG?’
The song ‘DUMB&DUMBER’ from iKON’s debut album matched the vibe of ‘RHYTHM TA’. iKON presented charismatic performances while performing ‘DUMB&DUMBER’, revealing their bad boy charms.
The song ‘DUMB&DUMBER’ was inspired by the movie with the same title and contains the message of ‘let’s party hard like we’re dumb’. Therefore, iKON revealed their strong stage presence through performing freely.
iKON also revealed superb emotional acting through the song ‘WHAT’S WRONG’. They presented their new charms by revealing contrasting vibes. ‘WHAT’S WRONG’ talks about a man’s mind who cannot understand his girlfriend during quarrels that frequently happen in daily lives. iKON raised the fans’ empathy by expressing the lyrics with delicate moves.
#2017 ‘BIRTHDAY’ + ‘BLING BLING’
iKON prepared themselves with perfect performances when they made comeback with songs ‘BLING BLING’ and ‘BIRTHDAY’. They also proved their global influence as dance cover and reaction videos flooded various video platforms and social media sites.
‘BLING BLING’ attracts the viewers with iKON’s powerful performance. They grab the viewers’ attention with their unique Hip-hop energy and charismatic group dance. The members revealed perfect harmony when presenting their sharp group choreography, while wearing hoodies. The leisurely gestures during individual parts also stood out.
In the fresh song ‘BIRTHDAY’, witty performances grabbed the viewers’ attention. The members dance as if they were bees when they shouted, “Let’s get some honey”, and looked as if they were really into the music as they moved freely throughout the song.
#2018 ‘LOVE SCENARIO’
iKON not only swept the charts with their mega-hit song ‘LOVE SCENARIO’, but also received a lot of attention through their performances. iKON expressed dynamic movement through the group’s change of flow.
iKON also made the dance more interesting by placing focal points which sensibly express the lyrical contents. iKON also received positive reviews by creating their own well-made performance from the draft created by the world-famous choreographer, Kinjaz. iKON’s sensuous yet restrained choreography is still popular among the public along with the song.
#2018 ‘KILLING ME’
The choreography for ‘KILLING ME’ emphasizes sexiness the most among all choreographies performed by iKON. The group performs a ‘sharp group dance’ as if the members became one person through their restrained moves, starting from the intro. The moves that emphasize teamwork more than ever compared to their previous works reveal iKON’s hard work while preparing for the performances of ‘KILLING ME’.
iKON then performs strong along with dynamic rhythm after the song progresses with the sad lyrics that state, “It’s killing me. I turned back as if you were a stranger, but why am I lonely”. The powerful and angled dance moves by iKON put the viewers in awe.
The chorus part which is called ‘JAY dance’ among the members is the highlight of the song’s choreography. iKON emphasizes their masculinity by wrapping their necks and bouncing their pelvis, while capturing the viewers’ attention with point moves where they nod their head and fingers to the side. JAY and JU-NE leads the team as centers during the chorus part.
iKON is challenging on thrilling and sharp group moves for the first time since debut. They raised the fans’ expectations by stating, “It’s a legendary group dance, among all the choreography we presented since debut. You will have the pleasure from not only listening, but also watching”.
Meanwhile, iKON will open the start of their ‘iKON 2018 CONTINUE TOUR’ on the 18th at 5 PM in Seoul Olympic Gymnastics Arena. They will continue meeting their fans worldwide by holding an overseas tour.
