On MBC’s Show! Music Core that was aired on May 6, YG artists took four spots out of the top five spots on the chart.
WINNER’s “REALLY REALLY” war ranked at fifth place. WINNER has recently made a successful comeback as a four-member group, and they are gaining wide popularity with WINNER-like music not only from their fans but also from the general public.
The third place went to YG HIGHGRND’s HYUKOH.
HYUKOH’s first official album “23” was released on April 24. The title tracks are “Tomboy” and “Leather Jacket”, and the album is doing well not only on the online charts but also on the offline charts. HYUKOH crosses major and minor music scenes and has combined YG’s unique color to his music, which makes it more appealing to the public.
The second place went to SECHSKIES. The group’s new song “BE WELL” has been at first place on online charts for a long time. Now, by taking the No.2 spot on the offline charts, SECHSKIES has proven its wide popularity.
SECHSKIES released a new album titled “THE 20TH ANNIVERSARY” on April 28 to mark the 20th anniversary of their debut. Now, they are writing new history as one of the first generation idol groups. SECHSKIES has released new songs for the first time in 17 years, and the group’s new song has dominated the online charts and became No.2 on offline charts. It would not be an exaggeration to say that the charts are swarming with yellow, SECHSKIES’s signature color.
YG CEO YANG HYUN SUK posted a message on his Instagram page right after the music show was aired congratulating SECHSKIES on becoming No.2. It is undeniable that SECHSKIES’s good looks haven’t changed. On top of this, their fans’ passion still remains the same. Maintaining their unique color and adding some trendy factors contributed to making SECHSKIES’s song a big hit.
The No.1 song, IU’s “Palette”, is also linked to YG as it features G-DRAGON. G-DRAGON’s rap that goes “Ji-eun, as your big brother, I think” is as soft as he is talking to his little sister and makes hearts of the girls flutter. It is different from his usual rapping style, which makes it more fascinating and perfects the song with a touch of warmth.
We will be able to see more of YG artists even in May. PSY is to release his 8th album “4X2=8” on May 10, breaking his 18-month hiatus. It is highly likely that his new song will be dominating the charts just because it is PSY’s song. Also, PSY worked together with major artists such as TAEYANG, Zico, B.I, and LEE SUNG KYUNG for his album, raising the expectations even more.
WINNER’s brother group iKON is also about to make a comeback soon. iKON has been on a break since it released “#WYD” last year in May. It’s been a year, and fans are looking forward to see iKON more grown up and greater music as they are known to be hard workers.
Last month, YANG HYUN SUK revealed a video he took of iKON’s music video. It was the music video of a charismatic and powerful hiphop song, making fans more curious. iKON has been producing self-written songs since debut and putting on stages full of energy.
