iKON Went on their First Asian Tour in only 6 Months after Debut and Enthralled Fans in Taipei
[동아닷컴=장경국 기자] iKON kicked off their Asian tour by holding a concert in Taipei.
On April 22, iKON held a concert at Taiwan’s Taipei Arena under the title of “‘iKONCERT 2016 [SHOWTIME TOUR] IN TAIPEI”.
Only six months have passed since their debut, but iKON has a strong enough ticket power to go on a Asian tour. The first concert of their tour in Taipei received much spotlight from the local press even before it started. Major local media outlets such as MTV, TTV, CTV, CTS, Apple Daily, Liberty Times, and Udn came to the press conference that was held before iKON’s concert, demonstrating their popularity in Taiwan.
A member of the press who attended the conference analyzed why iKON was so popular in Taiwan, “iKON is already well-known thanks to their survival shows and this is their first concert here, so that’s why so many people are interested. Among Korean idol groups, iKON stands out as each member have distinct personality. So iKON is huge to teenagers from the age of 13 to 17.”
When asked by the press what their unique strength is, iKON answered that they are like the boy next door and young. They proved that they were not lying when the concert started. They first put on a charismatic stage singing “RHYTHM TA” and “DUMB AND DUMBER”. Then, they sang their hit songs including “SINO SIJAK”, “MY TYPE”, “APOLOGY” and “CLIMAX”. Members roamed the stage while singing live perfectly with phenomenal energy. They also said hi in English and Chinese to communicate better with the audience. They also performed BIGBANG’s “BANG BANG BANG”, GFriend’s “Me Gustas Tu”, and EXID’s “Up & Down” to add diversity to their 120-minute performance.
The audience responded by cheering loudly and singing along with iKON in Korean. When iKON started singing “WAIT FOR ME”, fans held up signs that had “We’ve met finally” written in Korean as a surprise event for iKON.
Their surprise event did not just end there. When iKON came down to the waiting room after the concert ended, the room was full of presents and a cake prepared by the fans. iKON’s leader B.I said, “Thank you for the presents and for the warm welcome. The signs you held up during the concerts as a surprise for us was really touching. That moment will forever stay in my heart.”
After watching iKON’s passionate performances, a fan said, “The concert was great. I was really surprised that so many major broadcasters came to shoot the concert.” Giving a thumbs-up to the concert, another fan said, “I became an iKON fan after watching ‘MIX & MATCH’. I particularly like their ‘AIRPLANE’ song.”
Meanwhile, iKON will continue with their Asian tour with a concert in Hong Kong on May 7 and one in Chengdu on May 14 and Nanjing on May 21.
