From “WIN” to “SHOWTIME”, Everything You Need to Know about iKON
[텐아시아=이은호 기자] The boys burst into tears after losing in a survival competition. Two years have passed since then, and now they have become a super rookie and had a successful debut concert. This is the story of iKON.
On October 3, iKON held their debut concert “SHOWTIME” at Olympic Gymnastics Stadium in Bangi-dong, Seoul. About 13,000 fans came to see their debut stage. After the concert, iKON held a press conference and told their debut story. YG Entertainment’s CEO YANG HYUN SUK also came and showed his strong affection for iKON.
Q. After “WIN: WHO IS NEXT”
“When we were doing “WIN: WHO IS NEXT” (WIN), we thought WIN would be our last chance. We’re so afraid because we didn’t know what will happen next. We thought a lot about what we should do next and were worried. After the show ended, we practiced more and wrote more songs. I hated not doing anything.” (B.I)
“I thought we would be able to go up on the stage after “WIN”. Of course, it was hard then. But thinking back, I think we were able to become more prepared and ready because we did “WIN” and “MIX & MATCH”. We were able to gain experience and become better. Do I hate YANG HYUN SUK? On the contrary, I want to thank him for making our debut possible.” (KOO JUN HOE)
“Some say that because iKON is with YG, they have an advantage over other idol groups. They are right. Even before their debut, iKON went up on the stage with BIGBANG for the opening performance of BIGBANG’s Dome Tour. Even Seotaiji and Boys were not able to perform before fifty or sixty thousand people. I wanted them to experience this, and I think this is how iKON became strong and experienced.” (YANG HYUN SUK)
Q. iKON’s Debut Album and Concert
“Seeing iKON’s debut concert reminded me of BIGBANG’s debut nine years ago. I feel like a father to them. I was not nervous, I was proud. Of course, I was worried that they might make a mistake on stage but after the first song, all my worries went away. I too enjoyed their concert. I think I will really enjoy watching them grow and become great musicians.” (YANG HYUN SUK)
“We became No.1 both on the online and offline charts. But, I was most happy doing the concert because we could be with the fans for a long time. Also, becoming No. 1 on the charts does not really seem real but being on stage is something that you could actually be a part of and enjoy. I really enjoyed today’s concert and am happy that we were able to have it as our debut stage.” (KIM JIN HWAN)
“iKON’s strength? All the members like hip hop and we like having fun and playing around. We have danced a lot since we were trainees so we are able to do fun dances and performances. We could also write our own songs, and that’s certainly an advantage. Above all, we’re young!” (B.I)
“I participated in writing the music of “RHYTHM TA.” Mostly, I write a song and have B.I listen to the song. Then B.I tells me what he thinks. I participated in writing some of the songs in our full album.” (KOO JUN HOE)
“I don’t have a big part in the songs. But, I have no problems with that. I was the last member to join the group and this is why I have to work the hardest. I am going to practice hard to get bigger parts in the future.” (JUNG CHAN WOO)
Q. iKON’s Dream
“YG did not have any specific promotion programs for China. However, I realized that BIGBANG is really popular in China during their concert tour. I was really surprised. The Chinese market is becoming huge. iKON will have a fan meeting in Japan first, and maybe an arena tour next year. Then, we will target the Chinese market. We will come up with creative ideas rather than using conventional ways such as making TV appearances.” (YANG HYUN SUK)
“I want iKON to be remembered for a long time. I want iKON to be remembered as great musicians. I want to do as much concerts as possible, big and small, and interact with the fans as much as possible.” (B.I)
