[Music Talk Talk] iKON Tops the Charts Even Before Official Debut
[OSEN=선미경 기자] YG’s rookie iKON has indeed captured the hearts of fans. They haven’t even made their official debut yet, but they took the No.1 spot on the music charts of a public TV network. This was even more welcome news for iKON after the M Countdown incident. iKON’s “MY TYPE” was not included in this week’s M Countdown charts on the grounds that it was released before their official debut and there were no prior consultation.
iKON’s “MY TYPE” became No. 1 on MBC’s Show! Music Core aired live in the afternoon of September 26. iKON took the No.1 spot even without appearing on the show thanks to their huge popularity. This is only natural given that they have become a sensation recently as seen when “MY TYPE” swept all the charts of music-streaming sites upon release.
“MY TYPE” is totally different from what the fans had expected. People thought that iKON will debut with a powerful hiphop song. However, iKON’s first single turned out to be a sweet love song. “MY TYPE” has swept the charts both online and offline, demonstrating that iKON has true talent.
iKON has been recognized for their musical capability long before their debut. They have done several survival shows, honing their skills and building up a broad fan base. BOBBY and B.I even participated in writing the lyrics and the music for all the tracks of iKON’s debut album. This all shows that iKON’s power comes from their talent.
iKON will be releasing their debut half album “WELCOME BACK” on October 5. Expectations are running high for their new album and for iKON after their official debut.
