2NE1’s “I AM THE BEST” Shows Surprising Couterflow… Topping American Billboard’s World Digital Songs Chart

[OSEN=이혜린 기자] 2NE1’s hit song “I AM THE BEST” is boasting its power as a steady-seller, taking the No.1 on American Billboard’s “World Digital Songs” chart. The song has topped the chart 84 weeks after entering it, showing a remarkable “counterflow”.

On the 6 this month (EST), Billboard online published a news article titled “2NE1’s ‘I AM THE BEST’ Tops World Digital Songs Chart After Big Sales Week”.

Billboard said, “…marking the best sales week ever for any 2NE1 song… ‘I Am the Best’ is the only non-PSY K-pop song to hit No. 1 on the chart”.

“I AM THE BEST” has been used as the background music in Microsoft’s Surface Pro 3 ad in the United States, since August this year. This seems to have played a role to for “I AM THE BEST” to take the No.1 on the chart. “I AM THE BEST” sold 6,000 copies last week, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Billboard added, “2NE1 fans have been ecstatic over the reaction to the K-pop track, originally released in June 2011, on YouTube and radio too. The song’s official music video broke 100 million views over the weekend…”

The music video of “I AM THE BEST” reached 100 million views on YouTube on the 6 and it has been also recognized for its artistic quality, taking the top place in “2NE1’s Must-See Music Video TOP5” list published by Billboard in celebration of the fifth anniversary of 2NE1’s debut.

”CRUSH”, 2NE1’s second full-length album released in March this year, recorded the biggest-ever first-week sales in the United States for a K-Pop album, and was ranked in the 61st place on Billboard album chart, which is the highest-ever rank for a K-Pop album.

Meanwhile, 2NE1 has been meeting fans around the world recently, in their world tour “ALL OR NOTHNG”. They hold a concert in Macao on the 17, and are to stand on the stage of YG Family Concert on the 19 in Beijing and on the 25 in Taiwan.
