[뉴스엔=김명미 기자] BLACKPINK has been nominated in four categories at the ‘2023 MTV Video Music Awards’ (hereafter ‘MTV VMAs’).

The ‘MTV VMAs’ announced this year’s award categories and nominees through their official website and SNS on August 8th (local time). Accordingly, BLACKPINK was nominated for their pre-released song ‘Pink Venom’ from their second full album in the categories of ‘Best K-Pop’, ‘Best Choreography’, ‘Best Art Direction’, and ‘Best Editing’.

The ‘MTV VMAs’ is considered one of the four major music awards in the United States, along with the Grammy Awards, Billboard Music Awards, and American Music Awards. It has a proud history of over 40 years since its inception in 1984 and awards prizes in around 24 categories. This year, the ceremony will be held at the Prudential Center in New Jersey, USA, on September 12th (local time).

Expectations are high to see whether BLACKPINK, who has established themselves as the world’s top girl group, will be able to take home trophies at the ‘MTV VMAs’ for the second consecutive year. In 2020, when they were first nominated, they won the ‘Song Of The Summer’ category with ‘How You Like That’. Last year, they also captured two awards including ‘Best Metaverse Performance’ and ‘Best K-Pop (Lisa Solo)’.

Meanwhile, BLACKPINK is currently on the largest-scale world tour for a K-pop girl group, ‘BLACKPINK WORLD TOUR [BORN PINK]’, which mobilized approximately 1.5 million people. They plan to connect with their American fans once again, starting in New Jersey on August 11th (local time), and then moving on to cities like Las Vegas, San Francisco, and Los Angeles.
