YG’s BABYMONSTER, Surpasses 2.5 Million Instagram Followers… Solid Fanbase Before Debut
[뉴스1=황미현 기자] YG Entertainment’s rookie girl group BABYMONSTER is proving their massive popularity and strong fanbase even before their official debut, signaling their impending global popularity.
According to YG Entertainment on the 21st, the official social networking service (SNS) channels of BABYMONSTER, which was launched in February this year, have recorded 248,000 followers on Twitter, 2.22 million on Instagram, and 200,000 on Facebook over the past four months (2023.02.01 ~ 2023.05.31). As of this day, they surpassed 2.5 million followers on Instagram.
During the same period, the average increase in followers for the top 10 K-pop girl groups on these platforms was 290,000, 1.51 million, and 98,000 respectively. The analysis shows that they are attracting explosive popularity, comparable to already established artists with large fan bases, even before their official debut.
In particular, they have achieved 2.8 million followers on TikTok, a platform with strong influence in the global pop market. This is the second highest increase for a K-pop girl group after BLACKPINK, a top world group. Their various cover videos and dance challenges showcased through pre-release content have created a buzz.
The trends on Facebook and Instagram are also not trivial. BABYMONSTER’s official Facebook page has also recorded the second highest number of followers (about 200,000) after BLACKPINK, and in just the month of May, they saw an influx of 970,000 followers on Instagram, achieving the highest growth among K-pop girl groups. Especially after the announcement of the final members last month, the surge of over 480,000 followers within a week indicates the high interest in BABYMONSTER’s debut and future activities.
With BABYMONSTER’s global popularity represented by various objective figures, their strong presence on YouTube is also noticeable. Over the last six months, they have attracted the second highest number of subscribers (about 2.9 million) among K-pop girl groups after BLACKPINK, and they are quickly approaching 3 million. Their total content views have far surpassed 500 million.
Their widespread popularity not only domestically, but also globally is significant. Among a total of 150 countries, BABYMONSTER’s YouTube channel was most subscribed in Asia, with the United States, a major global music market, ranking 6th overall. This shows that they have captured a broad fan base in various countries including North and South America, Europe, and Asia.
In particular, the uptrend on YouTube was most drastic after the release of their pre-debut song ‘DREAM’. ‘DREAM’ embodies BABYMONSTER’s journey towards their dreams and their new beginning. Despite not even being a month since it was released on the 14th of last month, it has the highest views among the total 45 pieces of content posted on BABYMONSTER’s YouTube.
BABYMONSTER is the girl group YG is launching about 7 years after BLACKPINK. YG has aimed at the global market from the beginning, forming a multinational group from Korea (AHYEON, HARAM, RORA), Thailand (PHARITA, CHIQUITA), and Japan (RUKA, ASA), and placing a great emphasis on language in their systematic training.
