‘The Idol’ JENNIE “Fascinated by the theme of the music industry, it made me braver to be myself”
[이데일리=김보영 기자] BLACKPINK’s JENNIE shared her thoughts on her successful debut at Cannes in France with the HBO drama ‘The Idol’.
JENNIE received the spotlight by attending the red-carpet event of the world premiere ‘The Idol’ screening at the 76th Cannes International Film Festival on the 22nd (local time). She later expressed her impressions of the film festival and her acting challenges with ‘THE IDOL’ during a foreign media interview.
In an interview with the fashion medium WWD that day, JENNIE expressed her honor to be able to be here at the beginning of her acting career.
She mentioned the ‘subject’ of the drama as a reason for appearing in ‘The Idol’. She was fascinated by the fact that it dealt with the music industry as its subject, saying, “Therefore, I could immerse myself more in the role”.
“It was an opportunity to become more courageous by being myself,” she explained her character’s preparation process, “There was no specific training or preparation for the work. Sam (the director) also wanted me to be just as I am.”
Earlier, JENNIE appeared on the red carpet like a princess, wearing an off-shoulder dress with a black decoration on a white background, and a black ribbon hairband. The professional gesture of Jennie, who stepped on the Cannes red carpet for the first time in her life as an actress, caught the eye. The area in front of the Cannes Lumiere Grand Theatre was reported to have been crowded with global K-pop fans who came to see Jennie. Despite her busy schedule, she is said to have provided fan service, such as personally signing for fans who handed her paper and pen.
‘The Idol’ is known as a work dealing with the reality of the relationships surrounding rising pop idols and the world of the music industry. ‘Euphoria’ director Sam Levinson directed, with The Weeknd as the co-producer and cast member. JENNIE participated as the only Korean actor in ‘The Idol’. This work is also her debut work. The role that JENNIE played has not been specifically revealed yet.
