[데일리안=장수정 기자] BLACKPINK’s JISOO has blown away the competition by setting a new record for the highest first-day sales for a female solo artist in South Korea with her debut solo album.

According to YG Entertainment on April 1st, JISOO’s first solo album ‘ME’ sold a whopping 870,5149 copies on the Hanteo Chart within 24 hours of its release at 1 PM on March 31st. This achievement makes JISOO the only female solo artist in South Korea to reach such a milestone on day one of an album’s release.

The previous K-POP female solo artist record-holder for the highest initial sales was LISA’s ‘LALISA,’ followed by ROSÉ’s ‘R.’ With JISOO’s achievement, all three top spots are now held by BLACKPINK members.

‘ME’ had already garnered impressive pre-order sales, with 950,000 copies ordered within two weeks of the announcement (as of March 20th), and breaking the 1.31 million mark in just three weeks. YG Entertainment stated, “With this momentum, JISOO is expected to easily become the first K-POP female solo artist to achieve ‘million-seller’ status.”

The album’s title track, ‘FLOWER’ has also been dominating music charts worldwide. It has conquered the iTunes Top Songs chart in 60 countries, including the United States, and has firmly settled in the top spots on major domestic music charts with its rapid rise.

The ‘FLOWER’ music video is enjoying immense popularity as well. The video went straight to the top of YouTube’s worldwide trending videos and became the ‘most-watched video within 24 hours,’ and now has surpassed 40 million views.
