YG Senior Artists Compliment BABYMONSTER’s First BLACKPINK Mission For Debut
[마이데일리=오윤주 기자] YG rookie girl-group BABYMONSTER embarked on their journey to finalize their debut members.
On the 17th, YG Entertainment put up a clip titled BABYMONSTER – ‘Last Evaluation’ EP.2’ on their social media. The clip showed A team RUKA, PHARITA, AHYEON’s cover of BLACKPINK ROSÉ’s ‘Gone’ as notified last week, and how ASA, HARAM, RORA, and CHIQUITA from Team B prepared for their mission.
A team’s performance of ‘Gone’ showed how the members created incredible synergy together. AHYEON, who has great vocal techniques pulled off the difficult chorus part with perfection, and PHARITA added rich sounds to the cover with her clear and soulful voice. RUKA’s sharp rapping added even more color to the song.
YG senior artists complimented the group after seeing their better-than-expected live skills. HOONY from WINNER said “I got goosebumps looking at them being relaxed while singing”, and YOON from WINNER said, “Their facial expressions and acting were great. They seemed so into the song and seemed happy to be performing”.
The clip also showed how Team B, composed of ASA, HARAM, RORA, and CHIQUITA, prepared for their team mission. The song they were asked to do was BLACKPINK’s sentimental country pop, ‘STAY’. With great teamwork, the four members started diving parts and kicked off their practice.
Meanwhile, ASA volunteered to be CHIQUITA’s Korean teacher. ASA presented her extraordinary Korean skills by showing how she understands difficult four-letter idioms and helped CHIQUITA with pronunciations she struggled with.
The most important part for the group was interpreting the song well and expressing the emotions of the song. Since it’s a song that draws on the pain of a breakup, YG senior artist SUHYUN from AKMU made a surprise visit as a special mentor. She gave all the advice she could by saying that “I try singing after making up a movie of my own in my head” to express the emotions of the song.
Team B’s ‘STAY’ performance and BABYMONSTER preparing for their group dance song will be unveiled in the next episode which will be released at 12AM next Friday. BLACKPINK LISA making a surprise visit was also hinted from the clip, garnering the attention of what kind of chemistry the group will show as YG members.
Meanwhile, BABYMONSTER is a rookie girl-group YG is releasing in 7 years since BLACKPINK. Most of the members are in their teens and is composed of 3 Korean members (AHEYON, HARAM, RORA), two Thai members (PHARITA, CHIQUITA), and 2 Japanese members (RUKA, ASA).
