[더팩트=정병근 기자] BLACKPINK is to make an appearance at ‘2022 MTV Video Music Awards’ for the first time as a K-POP girl-group.

BLACKPINK’s agency YG Entertainment said on the 16th that “BLACKPINK is to make an appearance at ‘2022 MTV Video Music Awards’ which will be held at Newark, New Jersey’s Prudential Center on the 28th of August (local time).” They then added, “BLACKPINK is preparing for a stage that will light up the ceremony. Not only the members, but related staff are doing their absolute best to leave a memorable moment for fans all around the world”.

The ‘MTV Video Music Awards’ is considered one of the four major U.S. pop music awards along with the Grammy Awards, the Billboard Music Awards and the American Music Awards. BLACKPINK is the first K-pop girl group to take the stage. Among all artists, this is the fourth girl group to make an appearance following TLC, Spice Girls, and Fifth Harmony. Considering that the ceremony was first kicked off in 1987, their appearance itself shows their global influence and status as world’s best girl-group.

Attention is also being drawn to whether the group will win an award. BLACKPINK which won the ‘Song of the Summer’ award with ‘How You Like That’ two years ago, has been nominated on the ‘Best Metaverse Performance’ category, and LISA has been nominated as the ‘Best K-POP’ nominee with her solo title-song ‘LALISA’.

Meanwhile, ahead of attending the ‘2022 MTV Video Music Awards’, BLACKPINK is to release their pre-release single ‘Pink Venom’ on August 19th. They will then release their 2nd full album on September 16th, and head out for a world tour of a scale of 1.5 million people. Their comeback is drawing explosive attention as it comes in a year and 10 months.
