BLACKPINK’s ‘WHISTLE’ Video Reaches 700 million Views…Also Takes World’s No.1 Place in YouTube Subscribers
[스포츠조선=이승미 기자] In the midst of popularity exploding from world-wide fans regarding LISA’s solo title song ‘LALISA’, the M/V for BLACKPINK’s debut song ‘WHISTLE’ also surpassed 700 million views on YouTube.
According to YG Entertainment on the 12th, BLACKPINK’s ‘WHISTLE’ music video surpassed 700 million views on YouTube as of 8:53 a.m. today.
With music videos such as ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU (1.6 billion views)’, ‘Kill This Love (1.3 billion views)’, ‘BOOMBAYAH (1.2 billion views), ‘AS IF IT’S YOUR LAST (1 billion views), ‘How You Like That (900 million views) and their choreography video (800 million views) along with JENNIE’s solo song ‘SOLO’, BLACKPINK has now a total of 8 music videos that have more than 700 million views.
‘WHISTLE’ is one of BLACKPINK’s double title songs of their debut single ‘SQUARE ONE’. The M/V garnered attention for it’s sophisticated yet colorful visuals. The song took over the hearts and ears of global music fans with its unique melody and member’s glamorous looks.
The song reached a ‘perfect all-kill’ by taking over major domestic music sites’ real-time, daily, and weekly charts for 16 consecutive days as soon as it was released. It also topped the iTunes charts in 14 countries, which was rare for a rookie group at the time.
BLACKPINK currently has more than 66 million YouTube subscribers, with 29 videos which all have more than hundreds of millions of views. With LISA’s release of her solo single album, the channel saw an explosive increase of subscribers and took the world No.1 spot of YouTube subscribers among artists. This was a milestone reached after 5 years and 3 months since the channel opened.
Meanwhile the M/V for LISA’s solo single album title song ‘LALISA’ has nearly reached 100 million views as of now, which was released at 1 p.m. on the 10th. LISA will most likely become the first K-POP solo artist to reach 100 million views in such a short time. Also, LALISA took the first spot on the first day of release on 60 different countries’ iTunes song chart, but soon expanded the area to 65 countries.
