“Psy is put on a drip for preparing so hard for his concert”

YG Entertainment’s CEO Yang Hyun-suk said that he is now “relieved” after winning compliments and praises from domestic and foreign media on Psy’s new song “Gentleman.”

At an interview with StarNews, the CEO said, “’Gangnam Style’ was a mega-hit, recording 1.5 billion hits on Youtube. As much as I was happy with the results, I also felt an enormous pressure for the next song. I can’t imagine how it would have been for Psy himself.”

He added, “the pressure was even bigger because at least half of those 1.5 billion viewers will be watching Psy’s new music video, whether it is because they like it or not.”

And he also said, “this goes for everyone, but producing the second one is always much harder than the doing the first. Because the previous song was so successful, we thought that if he does well with this one, his global stardom can be maintained. The first success could have been a coincidence, but the second one definitely requires talent and a lot of hard work.”

‘Gentleman’ ranked within the top 100 in iTunes Top Singles and Songs Chart in Singapore, Malaysia, and New Zealand, while ranking number one in real time music charts in Korea. The CEO told StarNews that he “is happy and relieved.” On Singapore’s iTunes chart, Psy’s name is already within the top 10.

The CEO explained, “I had been DJ-ing for 15 years and listened to mainstream songs, and perhaps that is why music fans like the songs I like. And within 10 seconds of listening to Psy’s ‘Gentleman’, I thought this is going to be great.”

He added, “’Gentleman’ is trendy and it has the traits of mainstream music. But this is not the end – there will be Psy’s choreography to go along with the song, so stay tuned.”

He said, “Psy is extremely busy with the concert preparation at the moment, and he fell ill that he had to be put on a drip. He is doing his best, so I hope you all cheer him on.”

Psy’s ‘Gentleman’ was released at zero hour on April 12 in 119 different countries.

On April 13, Psy will be joined by his fans at Seoul’s Sangam World Cup Stadium for his exclusive concert dubbed Happening. Here his performance for the song will be revealed for the first time. The concert worth 3 billion won will be streamed live on Youtube. Other YG artists, like BigBang’s G-Dragon and Lee Hi will be joining him as special guest artists.
