TREASURE, “First Challenge on Hip-hop, Will Become Global Idols Like BLACKPINK from ‘YG’”
[스포츠서울=정하은 기자] It’s their third single comeback in only 3 months since debut. Boy group TREASURE, who has made an ambitious challenge to the K-Pop scene, is working up their way at a fast pace.
After making debut with their first single ‘THE FIRST STEP : CHAPTER ONE’ on August 7, TREASURE released ‘THE FIRST STEP : CHAPTER TWO’ on September 18 and has finalized the series by releasing ‘THE FIRST STEP : CHAPTER THREE’ in approximately a month.
TREASURE still has a lot they would like to achieve, as they’ve made debut only a 100 days ago. After making comeback in a month and a half, they’ve presented their strengthened teamwork and broadened musical spectrum. Regarding their fast comeback, BANG YE DAM shared his thoughts by stating, “It’s amazing that we made comeback so fast, and I feel grateful to make new challenges in the process”, while YOSHI also shared his will by stating, “I’ll show you my strong side so you can feel a fresh ‘shock’ through our latest single album”.
They are gathering the people’s attention since they’ve challenged the genre of Hip-hop, which is known as YG Entertainment’s biggest strength, for the first time. The title song ‘MMM’ is a typical Hip-hop song with strong grooves. It follows up to the themes of their previous two singles, ‘emotions of a boy who’s in love’, but in a more expressive way.
CHOI HYUN SUK, YOSHI, and HARUTO were in charge of the rap making. YOSHI stated, “It was good to express my thoughts and emotions, which I can only think of in my 20s”. ASAHI who participated in the writing and composing of the song ‘ORANGE’ showed confidence by stating, “I pass on a lot of my opinions when recording. I think I’m growing compared to my previous works. I’m getting better and better at selecting sounds that goes well with the song”.
CHOI HYUN SUK, who chose BLACKPINK as the artist from YG he would like to collaborate with the most stated, “I’m proud of BLACKPINK being active as global artists, they’re amazing” and hoped, “Since I wanted to make debut in YG and become an artist of YG, I love all my senior artists in YG. I think I can learn and grow if I get a chance to work with them”.
TREASURE is expanding their influence not only in Korea, but also in global charts of Japan and China. On the question asking how they expanded their fandom in such as fast pace, JIHOON answered, “Since we have 12 members, I think we may have grabbed the hearts of Treasure Makers with our 12 different charms”. He laughed and added, “We’ll do our best to present our variety of charms in the future as well”.
Due to the situation regarding the COVID19, it is hard for them to meet and communicate with the fans in person. YOSHI hoped to communicate with the fans in person soon and stated, “I remember our online fan signing event. It’s a pity that we can’t meet our fans in person, it was great to communicate and have a good time with our fans”.
Although they can’t meet the fans through concerts and performances, they also displayed their will to present TREASURE’s variety of charms through TV broadcasts. On the question asking if there’s a variety program they would like to appear on with the members, SO JUNG HWAN chose SBS ‘Rule of the Jungle’ and shared his desire by stating, “I live survival. I want to explore the jungle myself”. JIHOON mentioned MBC ‘Point of Omnificent Interfere’ and explained, “Since we’re always with our manager, there will be many interesting episodes to see how we live and communicate in our daily lives”.
TREASURE is planning to release their official debut album next year on January after completing ‘THE FIRST STEP’ series with their latest single. TREASURE is listed on the rookie of the year award lineup on year-end K-Pop award ceremonies, which is also grabbing the people’s attention. They must be looking forward to certain awards, since they’ve been very active for the past 3 months. JIHOON stated, “I feel proud and happy just to be nominated for the rookie of the year award. The award can only be won at your first year once, so it has more meaning”. He added, “I secretly hope to look forward to it”.
