BLACKPINK’s ‘BOOMBAYAH’ Becomes Their Third MV to Surpass 1B Views… First-Ever in K-Pop History
[텐아시아=우빈 기자] Group BLACKPINK’s MV for ‘BOOMBAYAH’ surpassed 1B views. As a result, BLACKPINK became the first-ever K-Pop group to hold 3 MVs with over 1B views.
According to YG Entertainment on October 13, BLACKPINK’s ‘BOOMBAYAH’ MV surpassed 1B views on YouTube as of 8:26 AM.
Prior to ‘BOOMBAYAH’, MVs for ‘DDU-DU DDU-DU’ and ‘Kill This Love’ have reached 1B views. The 2 MVs are currently at 1.35B and 1.06B views and are currently increasing their view counts.
BLACKPINK’s MVs are racking up views at a fast pace this year, while ‘BOOMBAYAH’ was no different.
‘BOOMBAYAH’ is one of the double title tracks of BLACKPINK’s debut single album ‘SQUARE ONE’, released back in August 2016. Despite being a MV which has been released over 4 years ago, it only took approximately 3 months for the video to reach 1B from 900M views. Considering the it took 4 months and 15 days to reach 900M from 800M and 5 months and 13 days to reach 800M from 700M, the pace of increase is unprecedented.
As BLACKPINK continues to release new songs, interest on their existing hits increased as well. In fact, BLACKPINK’s YouTube channel has gathered subscribers at a fast pace and is currently at over 50.8M. 13.4M new subscribers were added to the channel after the release of ‘How You Like That’, the pre-release title track of their official debut album(37.4M subscribers as of 6/26). As a result, the group became the second most subscribed artist in the world.
Their dominant presence is leading to success on multiple global charts. BLACKPINK’s ‘THE ALBUM’ topped iTunes Album charts in 57 different countries after its release on the 2nd, while physical copies released on the 6th set the biggest initial sales record in K-Pop girl group history.
Furthermore, the album debuted at the US Billboard 200 and UK’s Official Albums chart as no. 2, setting the best record in K-Pop girl group history. The title track ‘Lovesick Girls’ was also ranked at no. 1 on the Global YouTube Song Top 100 chart(10/2~10/8), making the people look forward to their upcoming success.
